Johnson Controls builds about 70% of the automotive/truck batteries out there. Each brand of battery (Delco, MoPar, Interstate, DieHard, etc) is built to the customers specification : i. e. numbar and size of plates size of tie bars, and material used in the separators- - - - so you can't depend on the Johnson Control name, but you can depend on the Cat, Delco, or MoPar names.

From tlgdiesel:
I agree that the Wal-mart batteries are a great battery, but that couldn't be so if they were manufactured by AC Delco. I maintained a fleet of GM trucks for 3 years and AC Delco can't make a side post battery that doesn't leak acid out the side post. Kind of ironic since they are the only one that makes vehicles that use the side post.

D/C has been making cars that also take the side post batteries for some time now. Plymouth Breeze to name one. I know there are others. The real kicker on these cars is to replace the battery, you have to remove one of the front tires to access the battery compartment, depending on which side it's at.

I had the Walmart Yellows in my 97 for at least 4, maybe 5 years. No problems. Even after sitting for a month at a time in cool, not freezing, weather, she fired right up.

I've had Interstate Batteries do the same thing. :-(
