I know some of you are running the Walbro. I remember it was quite popular a few years ago. I would like your opinions of durability, performance etc. ,how many miles you have on it if possible.

Hi Dave,

I have an Airtex E7153 pump mounted on the frame rail just in front of the fuel tank. I think I've read here on the forum that it's the same as a Walbro pump only in a different housing. It's been running for approx. 75,000 miles without a problem. I also use an inline prefilter (Bladwin PF1173 or Napa 3270) before the Airtex which I change annually.

Typical fuel pressure is 16-20psi at idle and 8psi minimum at wide open throttle, depending on the fuel temperature.

Regards,

John L.

I have had a Walbro on my 3rd gen since around 2006/7 somewhere's in there. However not many miles since I had a company rig until I retired. It is starting to operate at different rates, noise goes up and down, and last week my truck quit in my driveway while backing out. Turn the key on and no lift pump noise... got underneath and whacked it with a screwdriver and it took off, truck started and I drove it to the store and back...

I do have a w/s and a 2um Fleetguard filter before the lift pump so the screen of said pump should be clean. I have a spare Walbro under my backseat, it will be on my truck before it's next use. Going to call Richard at GDP, think I'll get a universal Raptor 150 for my next replacement and to carry under my backseat, but would like to pick his brain first.

Not sure if the added 2 stroke oil I run had a detrimental affect on the Walbro or not, since it is designed for fuel injected gas motors...

That's funny. I have a brand new Raptor in the garage but have heard some bad things about them after I bought it. As for the Walbro it kind of takes some of the wind out of my sails. I had thought they were pretty reliable.
Looks like the Airtex John is using is pretty reliable. I thought the Airtex was like the Carter only cheaper in price. I have to admit I had heard about the Airtex but never really investigated it. Sure looks kinda like a Walbro tho. If the Raptor ever gets installed and craps out and if I can still fog a mirror (breathing that is) I will try the Airtex, with 75k miles that seems pretty good to me.

Thanks for the honest replies

Dave
