Walker 21471 muffler

Quick question for you guys...



Over the weekend I installed the mopar "test pipe" on my '95. I didn't hear any noticeable difference in sound at all (I was hoping I might). My next step is to get rid of the stock muffler for obvious reasons, but also because both inlet and outlet were rusting and I will have to replace it soon anyway. My question is... is there any reason that the Walker 21471 muffler won't bolt right up to my test pipe and stock rear exhaust pipe? If I'm not mistaken, both inlet and outlet should be 4" (mating perfectly to the test pipe and rear exhaust pipe), so there shouldn't be a problem, should there???

You are right about the inlet on the stock muffler being 4", but the outlet is only 3". You will have to get a reducer to get the muffler connected to the tailpipe.



FWIW - Dynomax has a muffler that is very similar the the walker at about 1/2 the cost. It is a 4" in and out, perforated, straight through pipe like the Walker, but it is much smaller. Being smaller it will also be louder than the Walker, but IMO, it's not too loud by any means. It's a nice low agressive tone.



Either way you will still have to tackle the problem of matching up the 4" muffler outlet to the 3" tailpipe.

Check Delray Muffler House in Florida at 800-276-6399. They're selling the new Walker kit for our trucks that has the muffler and 4" tailpipe with polished tip for a real good price (@$199?). They also sell just the tailpipe for less than $40.

I forgot to mention I was at a shop the other day and they had a Flo-Pro catalog with a complete turbo to tail 4" exhaust (yes, including downpipe). The system was ~$340. I thought this was a great price. I don't know what the muffler looked like, but they seemed pretty confident that it was a straight through perforated muffler.

Wow, thanks for the great info guys... I'm glad I asked. I didn't notice the 3-to-4" step they put in the tailpipe. I will definately call the place in Florida, Kodiak, and get that 4" tailpipe coming. The Walker 21471 I will get seperately from my local dealer, as I got a screamin price on it. You can get a the 4" tailpipe at any Walker dealer. Napa sells it for around $55 if I remember correctly. I think the part number is 54150. Give it a try. If not shoot me an email and I will dig it up.

I'm now positive that is the part number. It is a Walker/Dynomax part number. The NAPA you are at/called may not have the number in their system, as it is a rather new part and I'm sure they don't sell many. Let them know you are positive about the part number, and to track it down they may have to make a few phone calls.

I went to order the 54150 tailpipe and 21471 muffler today, but the gal on the other end of the phone at Delray Muffler House told me to get the 22572 muffler. I aksed her why and she said that it was the muffler that came in the Ultra-Flow Kit. Are you guys familiar with this muffler? I called Walker to get the specs. on each muffler and got the following information: The 22572 is a 4" I/O, 27" overall, 9" diameter, lifetime warranty. The 21471 also is a 4" I/O (not sure on the length), 7" round, no lifetime warranty (it's considered a heavy-duty muffler). Both mufflers are made of aluminized steel. However, the 22572 sells for around $50, the 21471 for around $75. Any opinions/information would be very helpful!

The 22572 Muffler is the one used on the Janetty exhaust system. IMO it has a very nice sound.



Internally the 22572 is different than the 21471. The 21471 is a perforated straight through muffler. You can see daylight end to end. The from what I'm told you cannot see straight through the 22572. Given this, the 21471 is a bit louder and is free flowing than the 22572. The difference in flow (which I'm sure is very minimal) is most likely a moot point unless you are very heavily BOBMed.



IMO Either is a good choice, but if it were me I'd buy the 21471. The warranty is a nice option, but the exhaust on a diesel last alot longer than on a gasser.



Whatever you choose I'm sure you will be happy. No doubt they are both 100% better than the junk stock muffler.

1st. -Do not get the baffeled muffler as it will create back pressure and increase exhaust temps over the straight through, 2nd I doubt that the baffeled muffler is going to be good with a turbo... test pipe and free flow muffler... MHO

So, I decided on getting the 21471 muffler, as the Walker tech person today also confirmed that it was a higher flowing design than the 22572.



One question still remains though, since the 21471 is 36" overall in length (versus the 22572 being 27" overall), can a person still use the 54150 Walker tailpipe with the 21471? I'd like to assume that you can just cut the difference of 9" off the inlet side of the tail pipe and it would bolt right up... but you know what they say about "assuming"!



Has anyone used this combination before?



What clamp(s) did you have to buy?

Hey, I see that you guys are calling Walker,can you give us their number?Do they make a 4" down pipe or do I need to buy a complete Turbo to Tail?

I'm leaving the cat and muf in the barn.

I have the Walker tailpipe, but I don't have it installed yet. The reason being is my rear hanger wasn't factory so I have to do a bit more engineering yet. I have installed the rest of my 4" system though.



The only thing I can tell you so far is that the tailpipe will come close to your spare and that it will not exit completely on the outside of the truck, you will need some sort of extension.



I assume you are keeping the rest of the system stock. The only thing I can recommend about the difference in length of the stock muffler and the 21471 (I think stock is around 29") is to remove the ~7" so you are affecting as few of the stock hangers as possible.

Walker doesn't make a 4" downpipe to my knowledge, but I have a new Jardine for sale if you are interested. Then you can piece together the rest of your system with the muffler of your choice.

I also ordered a 54150 pipe, I also bought 10' of 4" pipe a 90 deg bend and a 4-3" reducer. I ordered a dynomax 17225 muffler 21" long from Jegs. All came to under $200, I figure about a six pack of time this weekend and it will be in. I can't belive the amount of good info that is available on this site, you guys are great. Thanks to everyone.

I've got the same muffler. I really like the sound. Not too loud IMO, but agressive enough to sound like a big rig. I went the same route you did, but like I said I don't have my tailpipe on yet.
