2 years ago, I needed an exhaust in a hurry, so I got what Napa had, which was a Walker 21131 muffler and tailpipe. The muffler has a huge body, but I think it is ridiculously loud inside the cab, especially with the exhaust brake, and I am sick of it. There are no exhaust leaks. Does anybody else have this muffler and find it to be loud? Could I get some 4" straight pipe from the factory resonator back, and possibly have it be quiteter? Thanks

I have a muffler that came in my exhaust kit from summit racing. It is pretty quiet until you stomp the go pedal. It is a 4" muffler that gives it a nice deep tone. I also have some 4" pipe etc. If you are interested send me a PM.

If you want a good muffler, but quiet cab inside, check out Stan's Headers. They are one ot the Site Sponsors on this site. I bought their 4" system and I am really happy. Big Donaldson muffler does a great job keeping the cab quiet. It's actually quieter than stock exhaust on.

I am running a Walker 21838 4" truck muffler. It has a 33. 5" body and 40" total length. I made my exhaust from 4" tubing and elbows. My truck is a Military truck with very little cab insulation and it is not loud at all inside, even at 80+ mph.

Check your exhaust hangers for binding and make sure you have clearance between the exhaust and other components such as the frame. I know from experience you will get noise transfer and resonation with either of those conditions. I would also check all the rubber body plugs on the floor pan to make sure they are in place.

I know MBRP muffler you can turn them around for a quiet muffler. Muffler can be run both ways did your muffler have flins inside?

Quieter than a stock exhaust?

Thanks guys.

The muffler can only go one way, because it is 4" inlet off the resonator, and 3" into the tailpipe (which I don't like either)

It isn't coming into contact with the truck anywhere.

I should probably just bite the bullet and get a 4" exhaust.

It is especially loud with the exhaust brake at 2500+ rpm. It almost hurts my ears, especially with the BHAF over the stock airbox, but I think it is just because the muffler is so big, and has a tinny sound that echoes off the back wall of the cab.
