Heat Exchanger

I stopped by the Walmart in Sequim, WA this week to pick up a few gallons of Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w40 and there was none on the shelf. I asked a sales person if there was some in the 'back' and was told that the store doesn't stock Rotella synthetic any more and he had no idea why.

Anyone know what's going on? Is it just my local store or country wide?

I usually get my oil at Wally World or their brother Sam's club. I get

Rotella T or Delo 400. I have never seen the synthetic version of either.

And I've got it in several states.

It is on the shelf in St. Louis. Plenty.

Walmart tweaks the items at all their stores, if some doesn't move off the shelf quick enough it is eliminated. In my area the store near the university has mostly stuff the college kids & uppies want. The store out near the rural side of town has all the good stuff. If you have more than one store; check the others out, they may stock the stuff your need.

Yesterday, I got 12 gallons at wallyworld here in fairfield twp. emptied the shelf ;)

Price went from 12. 48 to 13. 48 though.

The Rotella web site says Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 meets API CI-4 spec (3rd Gen engine requirement)…….

"Specifications and approvals

ROTELLA® T Synthetic 5W-40 meets or exceeds all requirements of API CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF; and SL; Cummins CES 20078 (extended drain); Mack EO-N Premium Plus '03 (extended drain); Detroit Diesel, Dodge, Ford, International, Navistar and Volvo. "

……. but I have been looking for two years now just about every time I go in Wally World and haven't seen a jug yet that has CI-4 on it. It always says it meets CH-4 only. The standard multigrade 15w40 Rotella on the shelf right next to it clearly states it meets the CI-4 spec. Makes you wonder, so I just stay away from it. VPB Extreme is fairly easy to find up here and clearly states it meets CI-4, so I run it instead. For Landshark it wouldn’t matter as he has a '95.

Paychk: Thanks for the tip. Today I drove 15 miles further to a different Walmart and they had plenty of the Rotella 5w40 synthetic.

AK RAM: The Rotella synthetic I just bought today is marked CH-4.

Also noticed that they had a new Mobile 1 5w40 for diesels and trucks in one quart containers. Forgot to look to see if it is CI-4 rated for you 3rd gen guys. I'm a fan of the Mobile Delvac 1 but stopped using it a couple years ago because it's so hard to find. I switched to Rotella Synthetic when it came out because it was readily available at Walmart and about half the price.
