does anyone know how good those walmart batteries are? they are pretty cheap in price compared to diehard or interstate. i am looking to replace both batteries on my 96 ctd and i am tight with cash.

i believe for the replacement on my truck it was 700 or 800 cold cranking. i believe it was a 3 year replacement. does anyone know who makes the battery?

I bought one of the yellow Wal_mart batteries for my '97 GMC had a plow on it (electric/hydraulic) and it worked great, I think it had a 7 year warrantee and the first 3 years were no deductable. I think the yellow ones are thier higher end batteries. The battery cost about $60 a couple years ago.

I personally work for Wal-Mart so I try to buy anything I can there, but I had two different Ever Start's in my old truck in less than a year. I got my $$ back and went to parts house.

I have 2 of those everstart gp 27 deep cycles in our camper and there 4 seasons old and still working great. they are charged and watered weekly in the summer and inside warm shop for winters. I just dont like the off brand name but there probably just as good as any other brand. I went for optimas for the truck just cause they sounded so good in the ads and they look cool with red on top. We will see if they leave me stranded this winter in the cold????

We run an EverStart battery in our '61 Chevy grain truck and that thing starts like a gem. Never gives us starting problems, battery always stays up. All we did was put the battery in and spray them with red battery protectant. That truck even has the replaceable clamp-together terminals on the battery end.

We also have had decent luck with our yellow EverStart battery in our '65 Chevy grain truck, now that we got the alternator charging. :)

I just had a problem with an EverStart in my Chevelle. Was forming a brown crust on top of the positive terminal-post connection. So I took the cables off to clean them and the posts. Also took the battery out of the car to check the levels and charge it in the garage. When I took the battery out I noticed that the new battery tray that I put on a year or so ago had a little rust starting on it. Took a look at the battery and it was leaking fluid out of it somewhere. Not sure when I bought the battery, but it had to have been within 3 years, since the last one fell out and busted the terminal off when I was driving it with no fenders, and I put this battery in with the fenders and tray at about the same time. The day I pulled the battery I remember trying to start the car with the charger on. Whenver I tried starting the car I could see a zap of spark fly. Then it got to the point that whenever I turned the key the interior lights would go out until I would mess with the positive cable. That was when I pulled the battery and found the fluid leak. Not all of this is the batteries fault, but I wouldn't know why it should leak fluid out the side of it.

I run Runnings batteries (DuraStart?) in my Chrysler and in my tractors. Can't remember what I run in my truck. I know my dad replaced the maintenence-free batteries once because he tried to pull the tops off to check the fluid. Messed them up pretty good. Now it has some Exide batteries or something like that. Wait, maybe they are Runnings brand. All I know is they work good and fine. Was below zero out this morning and the starter didn't miss a lick!

yea but would you put the same yellow battery in your 2003

Yes, I was impressed with the one I had in my GMC, with the warrantee there is little risk, plus there is always a Wal-Mart where ever in the country I might be if I have a problem.

Got two of the yellow work fine must add water not jelly sealed , under sixty dollars each ,had to adjust the mounting a bit different than the original , If they fail no charge first two years pro rate next year or two forgot how long , Most batt made local are of the same factory line just case and label changed to protect the guilty. So far seems like a good deal. (six months) . Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY

I've had the yellow ones in my '97 for at least three years, maybe longer. As long as the terminals are cleaned and water added (they aren't maint. free), I've had no problems. If I was off road a lot with lots of banging around, I'd probably go with one of the gel ones (Costco:) ), but since I don't, Wallyworld's are fine.

After Dodge had replaced 2 of the OEM batteries in my 1996 3500 V-10 due to vibration failures (internal open cells), I got tired of being stuck on the side of the road and bought one of the gel-type batteries at Wal-Mart. I did this primarily because the warranty was good anywhere, and I could get a replacement pretty much 24/7 if we were on the road. Never had to - the Wal-Mart battery was still working fine when I sold that truck.

Done the research

When my batteries were going to go, I done like everyone else, ask the question??? WHICH????????

come to find out they are made by Johnson control, They make the Optama, Interstate, Diehard, Everstart, well anyway, they put a lot of brand names out there, and Wallyworld had the best warrenty and best price of all the ones I checked out. This will very from brand to brand name. But wallyworld is allover the land, so would be easy the replace. Three year free replacement, 109 month total warrenty. So I bought the biggest one that would fit the space. The battery hold down needs to be longer if you use this battery for your replacement.

just my penny's worth.

I just replaced both of my batteries in my 1996 with one's from Sam's Club - They say Champion on the battery and come with the same warranty as the Walmart batteries. I wonder if they too are made by Johnson Control?

Anyway I have used them before and seem to work fine.

Another alternative

For those that have Costco in their area, their 'house brand' KIRKLAND batteries were rated in the comparative magazines a few years ago as comparable to the top of the line Sears Die Hard Gold, and were a LOT cheaper. I have put them in several vehicles replacing the OEM's and have not had problem #1.

WalMart, being nationwide, obviously has its advantages re: warranty.

The Costco batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls as well (at least as of last year). I've run them before, but will buy from Wal Mart from now on. A lot more Wal Marts out there if something goes wrong. Costco runs banker's hours and they're hard to find if you need a replacement and you're on the road.

I'd go with the Wal Mart.

I would not use a Wally World battery on a fence charge much less my truck!!! Everything WW sells is JUNK!!! You cannot get to be the richest people in the world by selling the best for less..... They sell the worst for more and advertise. Never have set foot in a WW store and never will.
