Coca-Cola Patriotic Can?

KFC does not serve chicken anymore!!

my younger brother (20yrs. ) has worked for our local Police department since he was 17 as a Cadet. he is an MP in the national guard reserves as well. He has two 3rd degree black belts and is a full time college student studying to become a State Patrolman some day. he recently hired on with Wal-Mart as a full time, part time (since we all know there is no such thing as a full time employee at Wal-Mart) employee. For that he has to go through a 90 probationary period before being hired completely. his last two 30 day reviews were normal, no problems. comments such as "works well with local PD" and "follows up on internal investigations in a timely manor" are in those reports. WELL... last Monday he was informed he has been called up to active duty with the guard and has to report to his unit on Wednesday of this week.

he informed his boss of this, as a courtesy. And told him he would be out for four days and would need to adjust his schedule. guess what? his 90day (last work review) was scheduled and done of Friday of last week. they FIRED him. The rotten, no good, SOB’s He was let go due to "substandard performance". last month, out of the four employees they made 10 stops, HE made 3 of those. HE made 1/3 of the stops last month but is rated as substandard and let go.

we all know damn well WHY they let him go, but have no way of proving a case. once again, this is just another example of the extremes Wal-Mart will go to, to avoid paying anything in leu of benefits to someone that is not a good little corporate cheerleader. so now this 20 year soldier is going off to protect the interests of this country and he has no job to come back to, thanks to Wal-Mart. My dad and I both told him to make sure he tells his CO about this too. I know they cant do anything about it but a friendly phone call saying “we know what you did” would make them think twice about doing this again.

I told him to make sure that every day of the rest of his life, he needs to tell 2 people his story and let them see the way these crooks treat their employees.

Anybody have the contact information of the author of the Wal-Mart book? I have some volume two ammo.

walmart sucks and i'll never give them a dime of my money. I'll pay 10cents extra for a roll of toilet paper, i could care less. Its cheesy backdoor stuff like that proves big business could care less about their customers or employees.

All

Not just Wally world does this, but most of the buisnesses in our area practice this on a regular basis. Had one kid tell me he went to work for one local company that hired him three times and turned him lose two days before 90 each time. They said due to slow downs! The real reason is after 90 days they have to pay health insurance and benefits. The last time he just went off to greener pastures.

This sounds like a case for the EEOC. Your younger brother should contact them asap. Give them the case. Who knows he might get a few bucks out of them and a job when he gets back. Don't wait around. They expect him to get pi$$ed and then forget about it, thats how they get away with this ****. There is a limitation time to turn it in.

A letter to the CEO and exec. VP over human resources would go a long way also... seams that they are concerned about public image also... CC the letter to the local letter to the editor / Opinion page in the paper. . they need to hear how they treat their local labor market.

Man thats a shame. But you know maybe in some way they did him a favor. I personally do not like Wallmarts Products they typically sell junk. But thats just me I am picky about what my hard earned dollar buys. quality over quantity. Thanks to him for protecting us as best he and the rest can.

As a member of the National Guard I can tell you that wal-mart broke at least 2 federal laws regarding National Guard members called to active duty. You didn't say if he was Army or Air. If he is in the Air side have him get a hold of his ESGR representative and report wal-mart. I don't know what the Army's side of the ESGR is but they have one have him get a hold of them. The repercussions on this type of thing can be severe if the employer will not mend their ways. Besides, the negative publicity can hurt them also. Keep us advised on how this goes.

Got to see the big picture.....

Next month is bonus month. They fired him so that he will not get a bonus.

How do I know?... . my MIL works for wallyworld.

Theyre doing their best to get her to quit.

WDaniels, you beat me to it on the issue of being called to active duty and the possible laws at play. Sounds like a gungho store manager may have acted without considering all facts.

Todd T, have your brother address the issue to higher levels in the Wal-Mart Co. and see what he gets in writing. Bad PR coverage on an issue concerning serving your country at this troubling time may be something Wal-Mart would like to skip. I can see the "O'Reilly Factor" liking this one.

Hmmm....I'm already boycotting K-mart, due to 2nd Amendment...

... and Rosie O'Donut... . If I boycott WallyWorld, as well, I'd hafta get hardware at TrueValue or HomeDepot. . which I don't really mind... and groceries at an Albertson's... which is my wife's parent corporation, anyway, and sporting goods at Big 5, which sometimes has low-buck semi-collectible firearms from Century Int'l... . and car parts at an actual car part place...

Ya know, that's do-able... . if they've not seen the error of their ways by, say, the 15th, I'm outta there...

Keep us posted, as the time ticks down... ... rm

Todd T:

Your brother should consider himself lucky to have recieved a valuable lesson in life and get on with his own. Wally-world may be bottom feeders, but they got that way because we all supported them as both customers and potential employees. The only way they can play the game is if we come to the plate.

You get what you pay for -

in Service and companies. If we didn't have a bunch of cheap folks who don't care about their brother making a decent wage, then we'd have a lot better country. The same logic train that manages Wal Mart - also will sell you all out by sending every factory off shore as soon as they can! They only care about one thing - Short-Term profits!!! That's all!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm afraid our best days are behind us, I pitty our grand-kids... ... .

thanks for the ideas gang. i printed this thread out and will give it to him when he gets back sunday night. I think he will know where he is going when he gets back. I'll bet the poor little (he's actually pretty big) dude is shaking in his boots. he is in the Army branch. his unit is one of 3 or 5 that specialize in battlefield security. i think they are rated pretty high out of the other groups too, maybe even the highest. you can almost bet he will get some sand in his socks. its just pretty sad Wally world has to be this way. if i were an employer i would double his pay and be there to send him off, with him knowing his family will be looked out for. luckily, he is single and knows we love him and will take care of his dog and truck while he is away.

I will miss him while he's gone and would give the world to take his place. or better yet, no one have to.

wall mart

I don't especially care for WalMart. But, they have been investigated and maybe it is still ongoing about their employee termination practices. Tell your bro it was not his problem; it was WalMarts. Tell him to keep his chin up!

Wallyworld in Whitehorse,YT

Thw wallyworld in Whitehorse, YT is pulling the same cr*p as the rest of the country. As soon as a couple of local retailers go under they are going to raise thier prices and there will be no net gain for the people.

Wallyworld is not for the people, they are for themselves. The local campgrounds and RV lots are going to protest thier free camping motto this season. These folks barely get buy as is. Remins me of a big giant stepping on a bug eating crumbs, sad sad sad.

I've never been a protester, but I might have to go up there for this one. Even though it's 230 mi. away, it's still local.

Wal Mart sux. I've felt that way for a long time. Remember the American Flag issue? I don't recall seeing any Wal Mart flying a big American Flag on a flagpole at any of the stores.

I haven't been to the local WM in almost 2 years. The closest one was 18 miles away until a few months ago. They're a month away to opening the doors at a brand new Super WM just a 1/4 mile down the road from my subdivision! Now it will be all to convenient to NOT miss it. . the traffic is gonna suck! The entrance to this joint is right next to the entrance to the neighborhood.
