Want bigger tires on my 1993 W250- Help

Ive got a 1993 W250 Club Cab. I have 235 BFG ATs on it now with stock wheels. How big a tire will fit the stock wheels without too much rubbing?

i'd go with a 255. 85. 16, 33" tall about 10 wide, nice size tire, i used to run them in the Dunlop brand with no problems ... Rick

I've got a 91 W-250 with a 6" Skyjacker suspension lift, and the stock 235 85R 16 Michelins (original rubber) under it, and it's screaming for new rims and tires. It looks pretty goofy with the stock rims and tires under it, I wonder just how big a tire I can run.

I ran a set of 255 AT's last year. They looked great but I had to trim the molding around the front wheels because of rubbing. Off roading was a problem even after the trimming and I noticed a big difference in stability when towing. I really liked the looks of them but went back to the 235's for weight capacity and fender clearance.

I tried the 255/85-16 before and wouldn't recommend it. It looked great but the truck didn't handle well and the tires could handle the weight and had two tires blow out the sidewalls. Also, because of the size I basically lost a gear. BUT it did look great!! At the time,

I now run 265/75-16. The rolling diameter is about the same as the 235/85 but you get about 1 1/2 - 2 inches more tread width. But make sure you get the "D" range.

During the summer months I run Cooper Discovery's new A/T tires. The size is 285 x 75 x 16. They only rub just a little when I am taking a VERY shape corner, usually like in a parking lot turning around or something. Not that much of a problem really. I have not added the 2. 5 inch lift to the front yet but am thinking about it before summer again so the truck looks level. Rally would like a good 4" life but $$ just doesn't seem to be there for it.

I don't think they would fit though on a STOCK rim. My stock rims were only 6" wide from the factory and even if they did fit, it would probably cause the truck to bounce more because they would be too small width wise. If you get out to some of the tire companies web sites, they list what size tires will fit what size rims or at least recommended size rims. Hope this helps.

Are you running 285's on the stock rims?

I've been thinking about the new Pro-Comp 305/70-16's, probably would need the 2" front lift but I'm more concerned about loosing gearing with the added diameter, they don't seem to be that much taller than the 285/75's.
Nutty Mopar, do you tow any weight with yours?

Bill-I ran 285/75/16 BFG's during the summer and they rubbed only when I turned extremely tight and had a little suspension travel. During the winter I run 255/85/16 with no problems at all. recently I added a leaf to the front to level the truck and now I have plenty of clearance, even with chains on. I would watch running the 285/75/16 on stock rims-I did this and the rim is so narrow that you must run the tires low on psi to get even wear. I now run 16X8 rims and this problem has been remedied and I can run the big summer tires at 50-65psi rather than 35-40. Talk to the tire shops-someone with experience-sometimes the aesthetics are not worth jeopardizing safety, ride quality or weight carrying capacity.
