Contemplating the purchase of a 93 cummins five speed to build as a pulling truck. I think the truck only has 36,000 original miles and I am wanting to get like around 500-550 horsepower out of this truck on #2 only no drugs. How do I do that on a 1st generation truck. Come on guys tell me what you know. Don't hold anything back. I want power that I don't have to rely on to get me where I want to go everyday. Because things break when we are having fun. What have you all done. I currently drive a 96 dodge with around 450-500 hp in the motor currently. I want this older truck to play with on the weekends. YOu all know what I mean. Give me some ideas. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Ideas ehh... ... well, the first one would be to call Piers at PDR and see what he says... . ;

Second, resign yourself to doing a full P-Pump conversion (one of PDR's "Stoopid" pumps), 12V head stage 3'd, or 24V marine, run twins, nasty cam, flycut ceramic coated marine pistons, head an block O-Ring'd, ATS manifold, overbalance the crank, rods, pistons, gusset the block, stud kits, serious transmission work, pulling clutch, and that will get you started at least... ...

:D

:D oh ya, one more item that is critical..... get a 2nd mortgage... ;)

I resemble that remark :D

Why would I want to do that. I didn't say I didn't want to leave the 96 with the power that it has. Just don't want to go to much more and have to rely on it to drive everyday.

Listen to Bushwaker and Nascar Mark - "ya can't git thar from here" at least not with the VE pump. The Canadians are constantly pushing the envelope but 500 hp thats still a ways off.

I'll tell you what I would do. I WOULD NOT add a p-pump because it isn't original. What I mean is that it would not be special because it would basically be a 2nd generation engine then. :) I would send the pump off to get totally bored on, like to scheid or columbus or somewhere like that. I should add piers to the list also. Tell them that you want to have every single thing to it done that can be done. Buy a set of larger injectors or get the old ones rebuilt/lasered. Then add bigger lines. For a turbo go with an HX-40 or a 55 or twins. Then I would think that it would make some good power. Have fun at your project. I'm contemplating on doing this sort of thing to a John Deere. You can get some real crazy ideas.

John

Hey John,

Some of us have 'played' with that very idea... .

The general consensus is that you would not break 400 RWHP.

Now, that's keeping in mind that not very long ago most thought that it would be near impossible to break 300 RWHP too...

I honest don't think that even Piers, or DD or anyone could coax that much out of a VE and have it last more than 1 run so to speak... . but it sure would be a hoot to watch... :D

I'm glad someone mentioned the thing about the p-pump conversion and that it would eliminate you from being a "1st Gen truck",,... ... ... ahemmm..... psssttt mark... ..... that's you bud...

What are we going to do with you... . ;) :p

Bush.

Well Bush:

How about swapping to a larger Bosch rotary "VE" pump? There's got to be some way to get real power out of these things. I'm no professional, but that is where I would start If I really wanted a racer.

John

John,

I did sell the engine but because of the wait (R&D) of my custom cam shaft I ended up putting the shop engine in and built it up as a strong runner. The shop engine will be tested soon after we set up the new dyno. When I finish my new (1st/2nd/3rd Gen) engine, the beast will go in.
