Stupid comp question

AFE and dirty residue on turbo

I would like to increase the horse power of my stock 02 dodge cummins diesel. I would like to get to the 300 hp range and add 40-45 ft lb of torque. There are many brands of computer boxes, edge, tst, bd, banks, and the list goes on. My question are they all good or are some better than others?? My rational for wanting this added hp is I pull a 24 ft 5th wheel with a boat tagged on behind. My truck is automatic and I am constantly shifting in and out of overdrive at every little grade, get my drift? I would like to be able to adjust the power as needed. I am open to all suggestions.

If you're going to add any kind of power adder, I would suggest you invest in an exhaust system and some kind of intake. You need to get the air moving in and out better. This will help keep your egt's down as well. You also need to get a fuel pressure gauge to make sure pressures are high enough to keep the injection pump happy. The FP gauge is cheap insurance.

First off Get some guages. A#1 Even stock That cannot be stressed enough. Fuel and EGT at the very least. Seccondly You will gain MUCH MUCH more than 45 ft lbs when you are going to the 300 level. Just by the nature of performance upgrades to achieve 300 HP you will get roughly 130 ft lbs as a byproduct if you will (Total Bonus Feature)

With what you tow Adding just an exhaust and intake will help you out. Doing much more than that and your Auto may give up it's ghost without IT needing some enhancement. Theese trans' have been known to be weak in stock form ... nevertheless stock with 30Feet worth of stuff behind the truck with power mods.

Your transmission is the problem not your motor. DC de-tuned these CTD's quite a bit partly so that the transmissions could live. If you run with gauges you will quickly see that added power and a stock transmission will make your transmission temps soar with any kind of load. My truck with a modest power increase and a stock transmission was not much better than at stock levels. I could not use the power. Towing in OD can be tough on a transmission. The aftermarket guys have it figured out. My new transmission lets me tow under full power with confidence.
