Hey fellas. New member and i've had my first goat for about 2 months now. i just got it straight piped exiting in front of the rear tire for now. it doesn't sound all that good. i would like to put stacks on it but i would like to see some pics of stacks on other 1st gens. I really like the bull haulers but i haven't ever seen them on a 1st gen before and don't know if they would look as good as they do on a 2nd gen. Also what size stack would yall recommend. One more question, should i do 4" from the dp and around the trans & transfer case or leave the 3". Thanks for the help.

bgilbert has stacks on his old first gen, and has pic in his reader's rigs. Look there, I also remember him saying he was going back to exhaust under the truck cause his stacks are too loud for him. He *might* sell you his setup.

If you are going to leave the truck stock then 3" is fine. If you're going to mod it much, I say go 4" from turbo to stacks. JMHO though. The company that has 4" for first genners also has a 4" downpipe. That is the way I am going to go, but I'll keep the pipes under the truck on the 93. On my 90 it will eventually get stacks.

I keep changing my mind. What I'm gonna do is get rid of the two turnout stack setup and go with a mitre cut single. I don't like them above the cab much, and I can't get into the garage at the height they are now. So I'm gonna buy a single mitre cut stack and move it more towards the middle of the bed, instead of all the way to the side, and it will only be a couple inches above the cab. My dual turnout stacks and box will be up for sale soon. Edit: more pics in my readers rides. I just ran 3" flex from the factory 3" up to the box. If you go with stacks, get 5", not 4".

I have to agree with you bill, I aint a big fan of them stickin that high above the cab either, but from the front they don't look bad. they could always be shortened though couldnt they. How do they sound? Thanks for the pic

I have two sets of stacks I will be installing soon. My truck and another local member. We both have a full 4 inch system now. I will have two five inch miter and John will have two 6 inch miter. Both will terminate just at the top of the window/cab line. John has a six inch box and I will use a four inch "Y" assembly.

I'll take lots of pics in the process. I'd better get busy.

I also have been thinking of stacks. What is the problem with taller then the body stacks? I do not need to pull into garages so height is of little concern. I plan on a single with a flapper. The truck will remain stock but I will use a 5" or 6" stack to make the exhaust flow slow so the flapper claps at idle. When I was in the Army my Duece had a stack in front of the cab and it was super loud but I figured it was the canvas top I had.

That gets old REAL quick. A single stack will not make the rain cap clap. There is enough air moving, even at idle, that it won't.

This is mine-

I think thats the first time I have heard anybody that wanted there rain cap to make noise. :-laf Just don't get a cheep one, get one that is nice and tight on the pivot, or that rattle terrible. My new service truck came with a rain cap on the chrome stack. IT was so cheep I could move it side to side about 3/4". I did not even start the truck until I had the cap off it. Whe the truck runs some days all day making air or operating the boom, a rattling, tinking, claping cap will drive you loony :{

Just get a large coffee can, paint it, and a bungee cord and cover the stack every night when you park it. Then just remember to remove it before starting.

anyone ever use the flush mounted caps for mitre-cuts? I don't have a pic, but they sure look nice... I wonder if they work as good as they look?

I am not worried about water getting in as much as I want the rain caps to clap. If the little bit of noise they make was a problem I would leave the exaust under the truck. Anyone have a single stack that claps or duals that clap? I am still deciding on this mod. It needs to clap or I will be dissapointed. On the loud exhaust noise I came from a Ford E350 with no cat and straight pipes. That was music to my ears. Oh yeah did I mention I dont like any of my neighbors.

A dual stack setup may not always clap. If you lower your idle, they might. Only the left side on truck will clap. The right hand one does not. If you manually hold the left one open a tiny bit more ( like 1/8"), the right hand will. It is very close. If the air flow is perfectly even, they may not clap.

They look nice with the engine off, but look silly when the truck running. I call them chicken lips. :-laf They are cashy, too. ~$70-85 a piece (for ones that fit 5" stacks). :--) Can buy stacks for that. :rolleyes: The rain caps I bought were $30/ea.

You'll care about rain getting in those stacks when you give your truck a sootbath on startup,I have a white stepside crewcab that would be a natural for stacks but after owning a LRT over 20 years ago I still remember the mess and that was with a 360/thermoquad I think the ctd would be instant dalmation.

That's why my F650 has a turn out faced 45* outward, and is always coffee canned when shut off overnight and whenever I shut it off when it can rain. You just have to remember to remove it before startup cause the soot will hit the can and then plaster black stuff all over the cab.
