OK, I'm starting a new thread as a result of this one.

I want to participate in the Ute Bumper group purchase, however I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for shipping. I love to drive so I am making this offer to any TDR members who would like to participate...

*IF* we get 10 people to 100% commit to buying a bumper for $1500 plus shipping, I will do the following:

WHO THIS IS FOR: those who live between the Seattle, WA and Sacramento, CA areas, I will deliver your bumper to your door. Anyone else who would like to pick up their bumper from Roseville, CA and save on shipping charges, I will store your bumper until you can pick it up.

WHAT IT WILL COST: AFTER the trip is made, I will add up the fuel $$ used for the trip, and divide it by the number of bumpers I picked up from UTE. I estimate the total fuel cost to be in the $250-$300 range, so if we get 8 people to participate, it will be $30-$40 per bumper for shipping.

CRITERIA: There must be at least 10 people committed in this thread (this insures $1500 price). Your bumper must be paid for in ADVANCE. IE: I must have proof from UTE that you have paid, or you may give me a check made out to Ute Ltd that I can hand deliver when I get there. There must be at least 5 people in addition to myself who would like me to pick up their bumper. The fuel charge will be divided equally among all who participate, and collected when you pick up or receive your bumper.

TIMING: Once all orders are finalized and TDR home addresses are confirmed, I will, at my convenience but within a reasonable amount of time, drive nonstop to the UTE distribution point, and return home immediately the following day.

DISCLAIMER: I am not an official business. I am not trying to make a cent off this deal. I only strive to save money for myself and any other TDR brothers/sisters that might be interested. Any risk involved with the pickup/delivery of these bumpers is accepted by the final end-user who paid for them. That said, I have logged thousands of miles pulling my car hauler and can't imagine anything that could happen that would endager the safe delivery to their happy home on your truck.

Please only click "YES" to this poll if you have CASH ON HAND, and are 100% ready to commit to purchasing one of these bumpers!

Any questions about my offer above may be submitted to this thread. I am open to any ideas or suggestions!

Please remember, even if you don't want to do the group-shipping thing, if you're ready to participate in the group deal, please click YES above. That way those of us interested will know ahead of time whether we're getting the $1500 or $1600 price, and plan accordingly. BTW, I have no affiliation with UTE Ltd, and am only trying to gather this information in order to hopefully guarantee the $1500 rate. Personally, I don't like this whole 'rebate' way of doing things, so if we can find 10 'cash buyers' at once, perhaps we can bypass that whole thing. All I know is that you won't find a nicer bumper for $1500 and you certainly won't get it shipped for $40 anywhere else or any other time. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET IT!!

BTW, here's a pic for those of you just stumbling across this thread:

IMHO, it's the nicest 3rd gen bumper on the market if asthetics are important to you, but not at the cost of durability.

What about salt

I live in PA and am worried about salt attacking the AL in the bumper. I have had two set of AL rims and they look like really bad after only on winter. Does any one have a good way to stop AL from pitting

Powdercoat. Clear or whatever color you like. Not sure if the UTE bumpers come powdercoated or not... don't think so but I'll check! Even if they don't, it shouldn't be too expensive to have it done. I plan to PC mine myself if the finish doesn't hold up.

A couple of things you should do;
ONE is to put a good aluminum polish on the Bullbar as soon as you put it on. This penetrates the surface of the metal and helps keep other chemicals out. I like Busch Polish myself, but Mother's or most other brands are just fine. Use soft, baby diaper cloth if you can find it.

TWO is to wash or at least rinse the thing within two or three days of a wet or snowy weather event. The chemicals they use to de-ice the roads these days is very corrosive to all metals, including stainless. It actually turns to battery acid under certain conditions, so rinsing regularly in winter is a good thing all around. I even rinse the under cariage on my rig at least once a week in the winter now. Ever since my new trailer lights fell appart after one winter of use due to these chemicals.

Hope this helps.

Randy, do you know where in the Kent area to have the Ute Powder coated white, and what it costs? I would pick mine up in Kent, as I have an RV dlr. in Kent that I deliver to. Thanks.

Well, at least we're up to 2 folks who want to get in on this deal! C'mon people, if you're planning on EVER getting a new front bumper, NOW is the time!! There is no better bumper on the market! When else are you going to save 500 bucks on one of these?? It's about $1550 with group purchase and group delivery if you're in CA/OR/WA/NV versus about $2000+ at regular price after shipping. Don't worry about the Christmas debt, just spend your coming tax refund! You only live once! ;)

Hey thejeepdude, could you call or send me your number? I've got some questions that would be easier to discuss on the phone. My number is 520-730-8208. Thanx.

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. I had to go on the road... .
Don't know that any shop is better than another. It's not to difficult of a job to have them do this before it is mounted. the end caps should be removed. Put it on a stand. Paint it and even bake it if they need to. Shouldn't be too expensive. I will check with a local shop here in Seattle and see what the would estimate cost to be.

I'll get back to you later.

I talked to the guys at our local body shop. They refered me to a shop near the airport called NW Powder Coatings. I left a message with the owner, since he was working on a project at the time. I have not heard back from him yet. I will let you know when I get some news on costs etc. I told them that they can do the powder coating before installation. We will see...

Well here's what I found out about paint and powder coating;
You can powder coat at a very reasonable cost ($100 - $150) if you are willing to accept a generic color. If you want to color code to your vehicle it gets timely and expensive, especially if your vehicle is not in the vicinity of the body shop. (sample sent back and forth, etc. ) So the price goes up to $350 - $400. On the other hand, you can have the Bullbar painted at any body shop and color coded to your truck for about $100 or so. The difference between the spray color -vs- powder coating is the hardness and ability to hang on to the aluminum. The powder coating will be a good 50% or more stronger or more likely to withstand the constant bombardment from road debris... . rocks, sand, deer antlers...

Hope this answers your questions.

yogibear, I stopped in at NW Powdercoating yesterday and showed him the Bullbar on my truck. He said he could powder coat it white for $150. That's his generic white, but no color match guarantee. He could paint it in advance, then you just bolt it on.

I too have been on the road until yesterday. I sent a reply on 12-16 and haven't heard back. I am ready to buy one of these bumpers but I need some details. Please call me at my # on the previous post.

Thanks Randy, but I'm going to back out of this gp, I'm serriously thinking of going with twin turbos, and the funds aren't there for both. Thanks again.

If you are picking it up in Seattle, that is probably doable... Send me an e-mail and we can follow up.
