My pumps on its way out, and would like to put a SO pump on my HO engine. Is there any reputable companies that will sell me one and not charge me for the core since my old pump is technically different from the one I'm buying? I guess if no one will sell me one that way, I might just go with a HRVP since I'd be paying for the core anyways.

I have 200,000 on my original VP now and turbo also. So this thread comes at a good time as I start my preventative research and buying upgrades before a failure.

I too have in interest in this. I am thinking of the Hot-Rod VP-44 though.

The HO pump produces alittle more power in stock form, however it reaches its limit sooner than the SO pump. If you plan to make much above 500 hp (or thereabouts) you must swap to a SO pump or the hotrod vp.

If you keep you eyes open you can actually find a used hotrod pump for a decent price (with no core) as those that want more power yet end up going to a p-pump and don't need the core.

I went with a hotrod 44 and was impressed with the gain. I like mine...

My source, an authorized Bosch rebuilder, combines the SO and HO pumps with the electronics needed by the engine, in your case HO electronics. This is the so-called "hot rod VP44" and because it is all new/reman Bosch stuff, it lasts as long as a regular replacement VP44 would. This particular remanfuacturer has done very well, almost zero failures over the last 5 years. He will take your pump as the core, too. I helped a friend put one on his 2001 HO and the gain was impressive, at least 60 HP.

How is he doing for MPG. I realize more hp means more fuel, but did he lose allot or remain the same for mpg with his style of driving and the hot-rod vp:confused:
