I NEED TO REPLACE MUFFLER AND TAIL AND WANTED TO GUT THE CAT WHILE IT`S APART. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO DO THIS OR WHERE I CAN FIND A TEST PIPE. STILL A ROOKIE WITH LOTS TO LEARN.

Go to the Dodge dealer and ask for part #52019170AB that is the test pipe cost about $45. 00 takes a little work to install but works great!! Good luck.

Mines a '95 3500, if yours is like it you need a 52" long 3" pipe swadged to fit on the downpipe (3") at one end and a 4" adapter at the other end to fit into the muffler... 52" OAL.

I found little if any difference, maybe a tad off the line, a bit more noise and a hyperactive canary sound at the tailpipe... (turbo). Mines stock. The truck had 150,000 plus miles on it and you could easily see light through the cat. Smells better... really. No more stink in the cab, I would do it again, but do not expect a big performance change.

On disassembly, run it get it hot and put penatrating oil on the U bolts loosen them and flood the joints with penatrating oil, push the muffler with your feet my fell apart... no saw required.

Gut it,just get rid of it,,Now I realize that up where you are emissions are a little stricter why not just lose the cat altogether(and maybe the muffler),,I love the angry sound much better and its better when the trailer is hung on the back,,If its a noise issue with the other half, give her the old,,Well honey,It was really ok when we went to bed last nite,I just do not understand it,,Must have been the Aliens again(beware here though,Watch for guys with white jackets or Art Bell),and NO honey I don not know what in the world they would want with them(cat and muffler)..... #ad

A question for those who have replaced their cat's. I'm getting ready to put on a 16 exg. turbo housing, and I know the exg. needs to move forward 1 in. If I replace the cat. with the factory straight pipe, will it be long enough? Or would I be better off to buy a length of straight pipe and an adaptor?
Thanks in advance!

Scooter, Your problem will be the front hangar. You have to heat it and bend it backward to move the exhaust forward far enough to make up the difference of no waste gate on the housing. You will need a torch to do the job. It's to tough to bend cold. I suggest you take a good look at the entire system so you don't get surprised! Rgdz Dave
