Hey and welcome to the ranch... :D:D

The question you posted is one that has been asked many times... .

It seems that the general consenus is to do just what ARedetzke said. .

The cost of conversion is as much as or more than a direct swap out.

To do the job you'd need the pump of course. . which one would you get, there are few choices and some are hard to get in decent condition. . if it's pooched you need a full rebuild.

The front gear cover needs to be changed and modified to accomodate the pump and crank sensor and so much more that it is labour/tool/equipment/time intesive.

It can be done but you need to be prepared for all that is entailed.

If you are serious about this job then don't get discouraged, just be prepared is all... ...

OMG !!!!! did I say that..... arghhh... 10RWHP penalty. .

I know it wont be easy, I know about the gearcase and other things mentioned, I was just wondering If in the long run it would be cheaper to switch pump and applicable parts or to start over with different engine. I plan on going crazy with this. Bushwakr thanks for the welcome I've been a member watching from the stands for a while but decided that it was time to dive in and ask a question. I will try to get a picture of the truck on here, it's a sweet ride and I think it will be worth the time, effort, and $$$ to get it going again. Keep the posts coming I want all the ideas I can get

Some one out there has got to have some more info on this. Let me have them good or bad. I've heard some say the pump hits the master cylinder others say it fits fine if youv'e got any ideas, or opinions on this go ahead and post.

Your fine with the MC. From what I've heard, the obvious, lines, injectors, pump, oil supply to the pump, new throttle setup, pump gear, case, also have heard you have to notch the head at the front left side to accommodate the big pump??

In my opinion if you can get these parts cheap, it shouldn't be as expensive or tough as most put it. They just shun the idea of converting and forgoeing the VE:D. Find a good junkyard with p-pumped 5. 9 cores and you'll be in business. Junkyard surfing is great, you can get these parts alot cheaper than vendors, and classifieds and ebay, and you might get lucky and find them in good shape. Look around you can aquire the parts needed if you aren't in no hurry and get them at a decent price. Run a search for more info on p-pump swaps.

Pump doesn't hit the master cylinder. Head on 24 valve needs to be ground a bit with a disc grinder. Don't know about 1st gen head. Probably not an issue if it does. With the power some are getting out of the VE pump, I'm not so sure it needs to be done. Although if you plan on going over 500 hp, it may be easier and the pump may live longer if you use a p7100.

Bgilbert and RonA thanks for the input, I'm alteady running a ve that is tweaked to max injectors, hybrid turbo, it runs good but I want more and don't want to pay for a new truck. This truck has straight body, new paint and interior. Its sweet and turns heads wherever I go. So I really feel like it will be worth doing the swap. I'll try to get a picture on tonight. But thanks again for the incouragement

Had some sorting out to do on my conversion. It wasn't happy untill I put twins on. Twins took it from 370 to 462 with way less smoke and egt at same fuel setting. . 050 forward with the plate took it over 500hp. P-pump seems to be a good way to go. My pump is 325cc. Not straining at this point.

not sure of the name, it is a oem color from 91, its very similar to the lighter blue color that they started using in 01 to present I think that color is called atlantic blue (maybe). When I had it repainted I just had them match tha color on the inside of the door frames where it hadn't faded.

It looks like it has all been covered in the above posts. I have a P pump in my 92. The pump clears everything like the master cylinder, etc. There is a special bracket that has to be fabbed for the throttle linkage. I still don't have the cruise working, but not that wooried about it. A p pump is the only way to go. I love my setup. 215hp pump, stock with NV4500, and much better than my old 1990 160hp auto setup.

been there done that

read the old tdrs i did story on 2nd gen 5. 9 in my 93

either buy my 93 for 19k, or get out the $$$ i spent 10k on my conv.

thats before the 3k for the 4500 trans

if you want to do it the 4500 trans works best as may the 5400

it pulls fwd mrt 1'' w/ big spacer so 7100 will clear master cyc

use all 1st gen fan assy, cover ect fan is off set diff on 2nd gen 5. 9's

like i said its great for pwr and those pesky chiped gmc's it fools em all the time. clutch cost 1500. 00 too, i had shop mod stock hyd sys on my 93

i do have a new 2000 5 spd clutch assy hydr for 150. 00 that i bot for this and never used it.

I havent decided what to do yet but I love the truck, if you go to Piers website and watch the burnout videos it will give you all sorts of bad ideas. If I do the swap Im going to go all out. I appreciate the input. Any more ideas send them my way!
