Muffler bearings bad, AGAIN!

Howdy,

Thought enough of us out here might play with the old stff as well. I am looking for a PTO housing to fit a '49 Power Wagon. The one we have now is cracked at the front output shaft. Our gears seem good enough, but I'd like to replace the housing. Nobody around here seems to think that welding the crack would work. If anybody has something like this around, please e-mail me what you have.

Thanks!

Hank, I've replaced/installed several PTO units on older trucks. There are only a few different types when you get into the oldies, easy junk yard material. Last one I did was on a '47 Dodge 1 ton, paid $125. Just check with a truck junk yard that is hooked into the nationwide computer and you will have no trouble finding one. They will ask what make of transmission you have. Remember the thickness of the shim/gasket between the PTO and transmission is very important for the correct gear lash. You may have to bolt it up a few times to get it right you don't want it too tight.

Just to be sure, you want the PTO off the transmission that drives, say, a winch? There's a couple wrecking yards here, and a possibility that one of them has one. What transmission is it, in case what I find is not in the rig? Also, which side does this drive off, passenger or driver?

Thanks

Mark
