Which TDR am I on ???

How about a wanted forum with the pay it forward. It would be much quicker than the classifieds and would get better exposure. Many people don't even look at the clasifieds.

All for sale/wanted items will stay in the classifieds. If people are interested they will go in there to look. The classified software has options to facilitate the buying/selling of items that the forums couldn't have. You can even put in search terms that the classified software will automatically email you if people place ads that match. We often hear the argument that people don't use the classifieds but it simply isn't true. In the month of december there were 244,480 hits on the classifieds - an average of 7,886 per day.

If I am looking for something I will watch the classifieds. But if I don't need something it may be weeks before I look. That works fine for me but if someone else needed something it will probly be weeks before I even see their wanted add if ever. Where if it was in a forum I would see it every day. If someone doesn't like wanted post they just don't click on that forum. Also I have posted wanted adds and rarely got a single response. Never have I had a wanted add work. So that being the case I think other people probly don't look at the classifieds if they are not in need of something.

$35 for my subscription renewal... I dunno, I would think that our input would mean something. I think a wanted forum would be great.

I have a better idea.

How about an icon that is clickable, that would link to that particular users classifieds ad, as does the one for the Readers Rigs section? And only have it show up when there IS an ad.

Just a thought... ... ... .

That is a good idea too.

One of the reasons I thought a forum would be nice is... ... . You see from the main forum page if there is a new post. Then It is just one click to skim the topics.

I rarely go to the classifieds to see if anyone is in need of anything, I go to look for what I need. A wanted section doesn't have to have a search feature, just a place to post I need this part. Pay it Forward is just a posting place for free stuff and a wanted forum could be just as simple. Plenty of us do indeed use the classifieds, to look for what we are looking for.

Steve, check out the CandlePowerForum, it is a forum for flashlight lovers and it uses the very same software we use here on the TDR. they have a great Buy/Sell/Trade forum where you can do all of the above. I've used it to post wants and it is simple and works great. Perhaps it might be something that is already available here.

Keep in mind that we have to take into account everyone's opinion - all 15,000+ current members. We get FAR more feedback that people don't want to see for sale or want ad items in the forums than we do those that want it. In addition, we open the classifieds for anyone to post items in there - both members & non-members. We do that so that you the members get the maximum benefit from it. Because of that there isn't a practical way for us to link to your classified ads as we do with the reader's rigs section. There is nothing in the classified ads section that ties to your forum account to allow for those non-members to take part (only place on the site that doesn't).

I can't say as to what you can and can't do on other sites for sure but just looking at the DTR site I see that they have a classified ads section and they have a sub section of that which is for want ads. I doubt they allow want ads in their forums either but I could be wrong. Looking at the flashlight site they are just using forums as for sale areas which as I said above we get far more feedback that people do not want that than those that do.

Believe me when I say your input is given great consideration - we make changes here all the time based on user input. We do everything we can to cater to the users wants/needs but we do have to take everyone into consideration.
