Wanted: Information on the changes on 2002 Rams

Hello to all.

If things work out as planned we maybe getting another 2500 CTD late spring of 2002.

I was talking to a local dealer and was told that only the 1500 Rams will get the "new" look. I have not seen one yet other than the pictures on the TDR.

I have heard that the CTD's will have to met emmissions. I havn't heard anything else. Is there any other changes ?? The truck we will be getting will be a 2500 Quad Cab Auto with the short box. Depending on what I learn from this post will determine whether we get a 2002 or shop earlier for a 2001.

I could be all wet. But I have read about some new smog requirements mandated on everything built from October 2002 on. This scared me enough to buy my 2001 a couple of weeks ago. In CA. my old 96 had an EGR valve, my new one does not.

I,m in the same boat. Although the 2002 design seems to offer some nice changes and additions along with the next generation Cummins engine in 2003, I definitely don't want to get stuck with a truck that will have more restrictions and maintainance due to new emission requirements!



I'm also looking to make a decision by next spring.

Since the 3500 DRW trucks are >10000 lbs GVWR (entrance to the land of commercial trucks), I would bet the ISB used in the Dodge trucks will have to have the same new emissions controls as required on the big rigs. It seems everybody, except Cat, has chosen to go with cooled EGR to meet the 2. 5 g/bhp-hr NOx/NMHC emission standard effective in October '02. They're talking about the big rigs needing slightly larger radiators to handle the extra heat rejection needs of the EGR engines. I wonder if the Ram will need the same.

2002 will be unchanged for the Ram!

Since it is a holdover, last run, look for little to no changes to anything.



As I understand it, the new emission standards are do for the 2003 diesel trucks. The engine used WILL be a Cummins 5. 9. It will be very similar to the european engine being produced now. If past practice is any indication, units produced prior to the end of 2002 will only have to meet 2002 emission requirements. That is why my early '94 doesn't have a catyletic (sp) convertor.
