I am looking at a 1999 with the 24v cummins what do I watch for on it ? It has 4 wheel drive and is a quad cab . I have a 1996 4 wheel drive has 251,000 mile owned it since it was new just had the trans gone through for the first time . This is the first problem and it really did not quit I just wanted it looked at. I had it rebuilt I tow a snowmobile trailer in the winter (4 place enclosed) and a 35' fifth wheel with 2 quads behind it in the summer . so what can you good people tell me .

Thanks for any input. :D

Check the VP44/transfer pump for pressure, you might want to see if it has a "53" block in it, if it's a 5spd inquire as to the status of the dreaded 5th gear nut. I think the rest of it is the same as your 96. I have a 99 QCSB 5spd 4x4 that I bought new, only have 38K on it, it has been trouble free except for a crank position sensor (under warranty) and a intermittent starter hangup; a couple of sharp raps to the starter with a metallic instrument has always got it going. Hope this helps

I have a '99 (see below) and another thing you should check is the steering. When I bought mine (it had 64K then) the steering was very loose, I told the dealership about it and they ended up replacing the steering shaft. That completely solved the problem. Good luck

5spd nut

I bought my '99 second hand, the only problem I have had is the 5th gear nut backed off a cpl of weeks ago. Got it fixed saturday and drove it today. Love my truck.

If you are a worrier check for a 53 block. I think most 99 trucks are 53's if not all of them. Probably not the end of the world, but some folks can get all worked up over it.
