With only 20,000 miles on my 07 I think my auto is dying. Dang smarty. Any way I have 35s with 3. 73s. I know this is not ideal but it's what I've got. Currently the only power mod is a smarty. Truck stays full of tools air compressor ect. weighs out at around 8000lbs give or take a couple hundred depending on whats in it. About 40% of the time I have my big trailer hooked up with a tractor or backhoe on it weighs in between 14500 and 32500. I have a very bad habit of having the smarty set to play and not setting it back to tow. I never drag race, sled pull, ect. but do work the truck on a farm where some times I need to get somewhere really fast or free a stuck truck or drag a fallen tree. I'm not abusive just demanding. When I had my 05 it was camed, twin turboed, big injectors, etc. If I had enough transmission I might would play again.

All that to ask what do I need for transmission upgrades? I would want to do it once and be done. If I need the thing rebuilt does anybody have complete trannys as I don't know or trust any of my local transmission shops? If I go this route do I need to worry about getting a 100,000 mile core vs my 20,000 mile core. No transmission wars but who do you like dislike etc

Sounds like you work it pretty hard thats for sure, hope your using TH mode most all the time. I am sure you will get varied opinions on which transmission to use but I would give very high consideration to location in the event you need warranty work and or have trouble after the install.

When/if I do mine I will be looking for a supplier that is within reasonable driving distance. Brand names I have read good about that come to mind in no particular order are ATS, DTT, SunCoast, Dunrite, Georend

Holy cow! I can't believe your transmission is still alive! IMHO, yes... . you NEED to help your transmission right away. A billet triple disk and VB will help keep it alive behing a Smarty equipped Cummins.

Jeff Garmon at Garmon's Diesel performance just rebuilt mine at 123,000. It is built and got the heavy duty torque converter, shifts like a champ now, locks up good too. Jeff can take that transmission apart in his sleep!!! LOL

Where are you located?

After looking at the suggestions and a few more, looking at web sites and making phone calls I'm going with Georend. The phone call was the deciding factor. I'm going billet from one end to the other, Dave didn't think I needed it but it was my call. I want to do this once and be done.

Shame on me for forgetting that one so I edited my post, I too had contact with him years ago and remember a good experience. Have not needed anything yet. I am sure you will be happy.

Good choice! I live about 30 miles from Dave and run one of his built trannys, you will not be disapointed with your choice. He has absolutely the best customer service, bar None.
