I have a 1994 2wd 12 valve Dodge. When the ignition key is switched to off the truck continues to run for 3 to 10 seconds . I have read in the mag. about this but don,t have all my old mags ( due to space). The truck has never been a problem other than sending unit in fuel tank and transmission lines. Any help out there.

First, Welcome to the TDR! (well, the website at least heh)

Sounds like you have a sticky fuel shutoff solenoid. Locate the solenoid behind the inj. pump, it has 3 large gauge wires coming out of it vertically. Remove the retaining clip and pin that hold the plunger end onto the fuel shutoff lever for the inj pump. You`ll want to check the condition of the dirt boot on the outside of the solenoid before continuing. If its intact, carefully roll the boot off the lip on the solenoid, and the plunger should slide out to you. Check the inside of the bore and the plunger itself, and clean with a damp clean rag. Lightly oil it with non-detergent oil, and reinstall. .

Could also be some of the linkage in the area holding the lever up...

good luck

tpOd pretty well covers the probable cause. The only thing I would change is lubrication for the plunger. I would prefer to not use anything, just keep it clean.

It has a pretty husky spring on it that should be kicking it out when the key is turned off. It may be broken.

If the rubber dust boot is bad, it may be causing some of the trouble as well.

You can get a replacement for it from Foster Truck.
