Warm Up Question

Hey, fellas. I notice my 04 takes about 8 to 10 miles of driving to get up to operating temperature. Is this normal? My lil Honda wagon heats up in about a mile and a half but I know it doesn't have the cast iron this Cummins does. Thanks for any insight. Also, do I have the fast idle warm up feature from the factory or does this need to be flashed in at the dealer. I have noticed my truck did this a time or two when I let it alone to idle for a few mins before taking off. Thanks again.

Temp thing is normal for a diesel. It also makes less combustion heat until working/moving etc. Need to fill out your sig. so we know if its a automatic etc. 04. 5 auto has to have a program downloaded,05 up auto has to just be enabled(differant ecu's/production change) 03/04 is not capable of the down load at all (03 for sure is not) 6 speeds require a clutcgh switch or a ecu pin bypass. Some one may be more specific on the 04 or 04. 5 download or just turn up manual high idle.

I've had more than one of our trucks in cold weather, as low as -20*F. and can tell you that at that temperature the truck never really warms up... . if I stop at a rest stop the truck will go into fast idle right away... . often without a load it might take 20 minutes at speed to get enough engine temperature to keep the cab warm... .

On our old trucks we used to put on winter fronts... . but with the intercooler for the charged air system in front of the radiator and it needing cool air... I just don't like to do that... . If we know we are going to be traveling a great distance empty, and very cold weather... . we'll actually drop a piece of cardboard between the intercooler and the radiator...
