fuel filter question

silencer ring?

Turn it on! It puts the engine under a bit of load, and raises EGT's about 200 degrees - definetley helps in the warm up process. Just make sure you have it turned off before you shut down.

The best warm is don't do it. As soon as you get oil pressure go. Just take it easy until you have some movement on the temp gauge. Even with the e-brake on the cylinder temps are too low. The e-brake helps but the engine still stays too cool too long.

Do it!:) . . I use my Jacobs (Mopar) brake to warm up the engine all the time (To get the cab warm in winter) and leave it on when I drive with rare exceptions. I use it for all driving conditions except bumper-to-bumper freeway traffic where I usually idle along in first gear with the big rigs and let the nervous gassers jump around me, shifting lanes and ending up 30 miles down the 405 right next to me.

Turning it off before shutting down? Dunno why... my EGTs are in the green... . I just shut down. Since my probe is before the turbo, I generally wait a bit after the EGTs drop below 300.

Ifn ya got it, use it!

I always turn mine on after startup in cold weather. Really helps get the heat going and in about 5 mins. you got a warm truck.

Use it for faster warm-ups, but it won't prevent the negative effects of extended idling. As Joe said the temps are still too low for complete combustion. Best thing is a high idle device with the e-brake on.

Illflem, with my exhaust brake turned on at idle my EGT's go up to 550 degrees (pre turbo) and stay there. Everything that I have heard says that's plenty high enough to have high enough combustion temps to burn all of the fuel. I use mine both for warmups (takes about 5 minutes in 20 degree weather to get up to full operating temp, about the same length of time it takes driving) and for extended idling (3 hrs one time while sleeping), I've never had my oil analysis come back with fuel in the oil (80,000 miles worth of analysis).
