At 35-50 degrees outside temp, my truck takes a good 25 minutes to get to 180-190. Is this normal? I drive it at about 45mph for the first 10 minutes in stop and go traffic and then 15 minutes at 60 mph.

No, Mine will be running normal In about 10 to 15 miles or less depending on temp outside. I would replace the tstat with one from Cummins.

Mark,

These things are slow to warm up, but like Grayghost said should be up to temp sooner than yours. Mine usually is warm in about 6 miles of 45 mph (at 35-50 degrees) driving on rural roads so by the time I hit the freeway I can run with the crowd!

DC puts 190* in the new trucks fer emmisions, Cummins reccomends the 180*, simple replacement, no gasket just an o-ring allready on the new t-stat, takes 5 min.

The reason DC uses 190's is lower emmissions, however I doubt you would fail because of it. As for warm up time..... keep in mind there is 1000 pds of cast iron. They take considerably longer than your average car.

Thanks Rob,

I live in Va, a state that requires an emissions test. Will the 180 change it that much?

markgrif,

dunno about that, I'm not required to have one, lucky me:D Maybee someone else knows... ... ... ...

I just picked up a new one from Cummins, Just to see what they would give me, I gave them my CPL and told them I wanted a thermostat. I got a 180 deg.

Defenetly go with the Cummins part, at $12. 00 its got a whole lot more engineering in it then those Stant aftermarket ones.
