Its not uncommon

for the diff bearing races to spin in the housing under high loads. I believe most places that sell the tools for R/R of a dana also sell a tool made for regrinding(or repairing )the sides of the housing that the races rest against. Its possible to have preload untill the bearings fully seat (if the housing is damaged by spun races). the explanation to me was that when you launch hard (or heavy)the pinnion tries to push the diff out the back(but its held by the caps)so as the caps flex(or stretch)that loosens the bearing in its bore letting it spin. this could be causing the loss of preload?

I attempted to rebuild a Dana 44 once on the front of an old Jimmy. After all the fun and cursing when taking apart the old one, I ultimately took all the new parts to a shop and had them install them...

Need spool for 80.

Where can you get a spool for a Dana 80, I’ve been looking and can't find one. Anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks

I saw him at Muncie, definately a whole lot!

Mine came apart by hand and I set it up with . 006 preload with the new (Okiego's) carrier. I am curious why the change in assembly preload, I agree they need it.

I think a spool would be a good idea for a puller, a judicious tap of the throttle would get you arond the corners OK on the street...

Hey, I'm getting better at this wrong handed stuff!!
