Warning About Cast Iron Nv4500 Housings

I have the cast iron housing and my T case just craped out at 20k after housing install, will be calling Charlie tomorrow.

Knock on wood, 150,000 miles, plus several years of sled pulling, no harm done to stock aluminum. The internals, however, have taken a beating.

Hello, this is MikeR, it's been a long time...



I have one of these cast iron housings and I do have bad news to report. My NV4500 just broke while driving up at BD dynoday. Yes my transfer case is full of manual trans fluid and it has been making the tcase puke the excess out, for while I couldn't figure out why, but now I know. Trans now needs a full rebuild. But I bought mine through Blumenthalls, but like CPFF says, I believe they all come from the same manufacturer.



I only bought the cast iron case because I figured stronger is stronger, even though I have never heard of people breaking the stock aluminum pieces. It's a good thing I saved the original because obviously that hunk of junk isn't going back on.



Oh yeah, I called them to let them know I was concerned for others about the problem, and I was told tough @#*%, not a care in the world from the voice on the other end of the phone line.

Update

Mine turned out to be a snap ring failure in the T case, not related to the extension housing. Charlie did however replace the cast iron housing with a new aluminum one at no charge due to my concerns. It had been installed over 2yrs about 40k miles. No complaints here about his work.
