Competition Warning about the Subaru Impreza WRX...

I will be short and get to the point... . I got beat (one the street) by a Subaru Impreza WRX. I thought it was just another one of them thar stupid ricers cars. . but holy crap those things fly. I decided to look up a little in and they have guys running in the 12's with em. . Stock they run 14's



So watch out. . they are faster than they appear. .



Now back to work so I can afford bigger shower heads.....

The WRX is a fun little car!! As fast as a new M3, but only $25 fully loaded. Oh, and thanks to Subaru's World Rally Program there are GOBS of go-fast parts for the WRX as well!!!

I would love to drive one of those.



I challenged a WRX on the freeway a couple months ago, came screaming up behind me but I was passing someone so he had to get behind me and slow waaaaaay down to 75mph. He's all over my rear end, I swear he was under my bumper. I complete my pass and let him by, at which point we are climbing a grade.



Just as he starts his pass I nail it, he gets about 2 car lengths on me while I am building boost and acceleration, but from there on out he could not gain an inch on me, I was right on his tail 'til I hit the governor at 115.



I could see him constantly checking his rearview mirror. That was priceless. Seemed to wonder why he had his foot to the floor and that Ram grille WASN'T getting any smaller



This is with DD2s only (plus ATS manifold, PDR35, boost module, 5" exhaust) on a strong-when-stock ETH.

ToolManTimTaylor had one of these... . not sure if he still does. From what he has said... it hauls some serious butt.



The WRX is still no comparison to even a mildly bombed MKIV Toyota Supra turbo('93-'98 in the U. S. ). They're a little laggy bone stock... . but for about $1000, they'll make about 450rwhp.

Not bad for a 3. 0L I-6! If you have more money, they'll make over 1000rwhp without too much trouble.

Actually in the latest Turbo mag, they mentioned that the fastest one they have come across was a 949 HP variant that does 9. 00s. If I can quote the mag "it is that fastest unibody Supra to date". Sure would be nice if that thing came in AWD.

JR2,give that truck some more fuel. ,Ive raced 2 of them Ram 2-WRX 0 . I had the DD3's both times,so i know it can be done. One 2nd one i ran had work done to it,he was catching me at the end,but not in time. I got my butt handed to me bad by an Eclpsie GSX AWD,after he beat me he showed me his 12. 10 timeslips,i did nt feel so bad after that. He blew his motor later that week. Toolman gave me a ride in his WRX,that thing was awesome,what a torquey little 4 cyl,I was very impressed by his WRX,to bad he had to sell it, i wish i could have afforded it.

I like Basmati rice only... . (those who know what Basmati rice is and know my GF understand why... . )



I've been in two 10-second Supras on the street... . all I can say is that 140+mph comes REAL quick! That little 3. 0L 24-valve I6 is like a hungry, caged, angry Mongoose... . I have never seen an engine that eager to make power... . pure insanity.

Really it is impressive that those little cars can make big numbers... I know I was impressed with that WRX. The thing I don't like is the fakes. Guys with big wings and ground effects with no HP. If you got rice and got HP then by all means I will give you the respect you deserve. But if all you have is a bunch of crap and a big muffler I will smoke ya on principal.

Well said JR2! :-laf :-laf I love smoking the ricers who have a stock Honda with a loud coffee can exhaust, a wing the size of a Boeing 747's, and "Type R" stickers pasted all over it... . What a frickin' joke! :-laf :-laf

Theres a few stock Hondads here with wings. and evne roll cages,with guages hanging off them,my wifes stock 300M quickly shows them taillights,The ram would obliterate them.

The 2JZ really loves a Greddy T88 (based on the Mitsubishi TD08H) >800 hp



the >1000 HP guys are running single Turbonetics T-78's or larger. They run like a N/A car below 4000 RPM... . after that hold on to your butt!

Exactly... the lag on those things is horrendous when they run a huge single turbo and don't make good daily drivers. Give me a bored & stroked LS6 anyday... you can run 9s on all motor

How about >1150 HP

Just got back from SEMA, and their are a couple of toyota I-6s in over 1150, drug enduced. The one that I saw actually still used the two turbo design, although they weren't stock.



What about the Nissan Skyline?, unforturnatly the car has been very hard to get over here, but it will give the toyota a serious run for its money.

A little NOS will spool even a 100+mm thumper..... and a lot of guys are going to GM automatics with `brakes and high stall convertors... . they spool just fine.



The Skylines are just as nasty... . but nastier in some respects... . like AWD for example!



Let's not forget the ~1800hp 2JZ Toyota Solara from Bullish Racing... . 6. 80's in the 1/4 mile.

JR2, just wait until the WRX STI comes to the states. That thing is fast. I believe 0-60 in 4. 6 sec. from what i've read. Same with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, 0-60 in 4. 6 sec. This car is also coming to the states. Both are officially rated at 276 horsepower which is a big fat lie. Japan has a horsepower limit of 276. It's more like 320 hp. Anyway, watch out for these little awd monsters! I'm still more impressed with the mighty cummins. We can run 12's as well and that's with a truck weighing twice as much! Also, we proud cummins owners can make torque numbers that would put any exotic car(lambo,ferrari,etc. ) to shame.
