Today, I had the first flat tire on my 2001 2500 4wd quad cab. As I removed the jack from under the back seat, I noticed it was labeled for use with a "1500" truck. As it turns out, the jack did not have the range necessary to lift the tire off the ground! I would strongly suggest everyone check the jack in their trucks to make sure they weren't short-changed as I was. Needless to say, I'm going to the dealer tomorrow.

I have the exact same truck as you, i will be checking mine tommorow too. Is there a label right on it that says what it is for?

Yes, there is a label right on the jack that
said it was for a "1500". My truck was made in St. Louis, if that makes any difference.

Howdy,
When you get a Cummins you toss the stock jack and get a 4ton jack. I never tried to use that POS that came under tha back seat.

With a 99 quad 4x4 diesel long bed and stacked over the roof with firewood and a 14 dump trailer in tow also loaded with green oak I will personally tell you that the stock jack will lift anything. I had a flat on I-95 and I was very leary about the stock jack but i had no choice. Other then being slow it did a excellent job!!!!!

When I first got the truck, I used the stock jack to confirm my limited slip. I didn't notice what sticker was on it, but it worked fine. I've never used it since, because I use my 6 ton bottle jack instead. It seems like my stock one is okay, though.

Used my stock jack to change over from stock to custom wheel tire package. Jacked the truck up six times total and it wouldn't do a seventh. Got a new one under warranty but now use a 6 ton bottle jack instead.

Check your lug nut wrench too. They put a bunch of the smaller nut size ones on some state bid 2500 at work and they didn't fit the 2500. When guys got flats, we ended up calling $100 tows to change em for us. Actually, this was kinda nice, since I/we didn't have to pay for the tow company.

greg,

your old truck's jack works fine. how do i know you ask? the day AFTER i got new tires i got a flat on the way to the motorcycle shop!! #ad

you never seem to check these things. you just kinda assume it's right. you know what they say about assumin', right?
