I am fighting front end wobble when braking, usually about 45-55 mph. I had the front rotors turned about a month ago, and less than 1,000 miles, which solved the problem for a while. The truck has not been subject to hard abuse, no trailers, just light duty in-town driving. I am now planning on replacing the rotors. Is there any that hold up any better?? I am a little discouraged that a one ton's brakes, (350 4x4 SRW) will warp in such a short amount of time with such light duty use.

Frequently, the calipers stick which contribute to the overheating. I went through having my rotors turned a couple times. I just installed new calipers and rotors about 3000 miles ago. The problem has gone away! :D

I also installed performance friction carbon metallic pads. They are much better at stopping the truck than the old semi metallics were. IF you go that route, remember places like Schuck's have a beat any price by 10% offer. I found them online, printed up teh order page and they gave them to me for 10% less. Got them for $32.

Like CDegner says, sticking calipers are a big problem on these trucks. Try cleaning the slide areas (I use course sandpaper to get the rust off) and use the special caliper grease.

Another thing that really helps this situation is to keep the rear brakes adjusted. I manually adjust mine every couple of months.

If you don't already have the 3" rear brakes, a conversion will help.

I went through the same problem a while back and had to turn the rotors 3 times (at 1000---2000 mile intervals) before the above suggestions provided a cure.

Carl,

Did you order your calipers, rotors and pads online. If so, what are some good sites, and what should I expect to pay. I am not familiar with Schuck's. Sounds like my calipers are probably sticking. NAPA had two different part numbers for rotors. Prices were $39 and $119. I am sure I know which rotors I need just by the price. Big O wants $150 per rotor. Thanks for the help.

I got my rotors and calipers through a small local independent parts house that has always been good about getting me parts in. I don't remember for sure (the receipts are buried out in the garage) but I think my rotors and calipers were under $160 for both sides. I was really suprised at how reasonable everything was.

Checker's, Shcuck's and Kragen are a big chain in the Northwest. I don't know how far east they make it.
