Warped glove box

I bought my truck used with a warped glove box. Latches OK but looks lousy. Have any of you any experience or ideas about how to fix this? Thanks for the help. Dale

I assume you mean the DOOR to the glovebox - Mine is also slightly warped, but not enough that anyone but me has noticed. Since it's plastic-type material, I would assume that using a couple of clamps and a board to force it counter to its warped shape, then carefully applying heat from a hair dryer or similar, would encourage it to a new shape...

Gary, mine is noticeably warped when the box is closed. So much that I added a piece of blue foam to the box so the switch will turn the glove box light off when the box is closed.

I guess it is possible that our boxes are made different with your door more separate from the rest of the box than mine is. I have never been inside any other 1st generation truck and probably would not of noticed something like that anyway.

I have thought of removing the box, forcing and bracing it back to where it ought to be, and maybe even more so, then putting in the oven but I have no idea how hot the oven must be to do any good. The glove box has worked OK for the ten years I have had the truck so I am not all that anxious about buying a new box.

I sometimes wonder how it was bent in the first place. Something way too heavy was set on it when it was open I guess. But did the weather have to be very warm at the same time?

The glove box on 'Ol Blue was warped the day we drove her home. I think they all were to some degree. Not to start a riote, but look your first gen over closely; you can really tell that "fit and finish" was not of primary concern. It was not for us either, we just had to have that metallic blue CUMMINS powered beauty. I know she ain't perfect, but she has aged gracefully and dusted a few powerstrokes in the meantime.

Big Don. That makes sense to me. Like I said, I was not able to figure out how it could become so warped. But it could of been made at the factory that way. Thanks for the wise council. I will continue to tell folks that my truck may not be pretty but beauty is only skin deep. My truck has heart. And a Cummins engine. Which is really why I bought it. Dale

Mine is warped too. I kinda thjought it had too much crap forced into it for too many years and the plastic cold flowed.

I am a Plastics Technologist (and Mech eng. ) and can say the following, now that I hear other glove boxes are warped too, the injection pressure was too high when they were injection molded and the ABS had residual stresses built up in it. Over time and 10 years of thermal cycles, the plastic has relaxed into a more comfortable state (stress releived itself) and is warped. The above mentioned hair dryer trick will work temporarily buy the warp will return, how long this will take depends on many variables - It might last a week or 10 years.
