If there is some relatively small part failure, such as thermostat, for example , can these parts be supplied as warranty if we install it ourselves?, or does it HAVE to be installed by the dealer?

I will probably change the part myself, but if I can get the part on warranty, I will do so.

Thanks,

Shawn

Probably depends on your dealer

Be prepared to eat the cost yourself, especially if you don't get the part from Chrysler. If you get the part from Chrysler and install it yourself, you probably stand a better chance with any applicable warranty claim. If you have a really good dealer, you could probably get an aftermarket part replaced under warranty as well. If you have a PITA dealer, you may as well forget it and start digging out the checkbook or the plastic.

Warranty...

If your truck is under the manufacturer's original warranty, the dealership will need the bad part back. The manufacturer requires all warranty parts to be kept for at least 30 days or so in case the manufacturer wants to look at the part to determine the defect.

If under the warranty, I would have the dealership do it, as it will be logged as changed in the computer. D-C will know what was done to the truck and you can get the part replaced if it fails within the part's warranty time.

I used to be a service manager, and am familiar with this. You can change the part yourself, if the dealership will log it as "part changed by customer" on the repair order. The part can be warranteed and still have documentation on the computer. If the part fails again, some service managers may give you a hard time if they feel you have caused the part to fail due to incorrect installation. D-C will side with the service manager 99% of the time, so be forewarned.

Hope this helps. :)
