Have a warranty type question of everyone.

I have a 2001 2500 4x4 with regular output Cummins with 17000 miles. I have a AFE Tunnel Ram filter/intake assembly and a SPA Boost/EGT gauge. This is all that I have done to the engine. Recently while in to have a transmission line leak repaired I was advised by the dealer that " they would not touch my truck due to all of the turbo and performance upgrades" ( filter and gauge). They advised that my warranty was VOID because of these "performance enhancements. " This doesnt sound right to me and was wondering if anyone can offer any advice. They initally advised that there was no leak until I climbed under the truck and pointed the very obvious leak out to the tech. They then advised that the fitting had been updated by Chrysler 3 times and it still leaks then told me they would not fix it under warranty. Any advice will help.

Thanks

Jason

Welcome JC,

Heck of a way to start with this as a first post. Check this thread.

This sounds like another case of the Clueless 5-Star looking for ANY reason to void a warranty instead of diagnosing and repairing a legitimate problem. #@$%!

Stick to your guns.

They need to prove how a Boost gauge, and an aftermarket air filter can make a transmission line leak.

It might be time to let the "Service" manager know you'll be contacting an attorney.

Complete your sig and location so we can see where you are.

Welcome aboard !!! Shovelhead pretty much summed it up. I really feel sorry for those that have purchased extended warranties, alot, not all, of the dealerships just plain suck and have no clue as to even diagnose a problem with the CTD's.

If they are going to deny warranty have them put it in writing and explain; #1 what was the cause of failure, and #2 how did your enhancements to the engine cause this failure.

The only way they can legally deny warranty is to demonstrate (PROVE) your enhancements caused the failure.

Unfortunately a lot of people (me included) buy the extended warranty at the time of the purchase because it's our first Diesel and we don't know what can possibly break and also don't yet know how to fix it.

Unfortunately for many of us we discover the TDR at some point after and it's too late by the time we realize that the dealers are not always truthful and honest when dealing with warranty claims.

I still don't get the reason why, if they're reimbursed by DC for the warranty work they do why do they fight it so hard?

I know, might as well ask why the sky is blue.

Guess Iwas lucky dealer never flinched on warranty. Clockspring twice, fuel level sender, complete new auto at 35,853. Left gauges and VA on never said a word.

Well...

although I don't have any experience yet with actual warranty claims, I did talk to the local stealer where I am right now. This is not the dealer that my truck was originally bought from, and I have not talked to them about it, but going by what the salesmen there tell me (things like "the '01's have Allison transmission's in them"), I don't think they'd like my comp on my truck... . but this other dealer told me that, and I quote,

"we get payed to do warranty work, so, even though they're not going to tell you that they'll do the work on your truck under warranty, they won't say a thing about any mods".

This salesman drove an '01 2500 CTD, and said he had injectors and a box, although I didn't see it. This conversation came after I remarked how hard it would be to put new injectors in the '03's, and he said that it'd void the warranty, which brought me to my real question about this dealer's take on BOMB's. Seems like if I have a problem while at school, things will be ok.

Sorry for the long post. Later, Josh.

Thanks for all the replies

Thanks for all of the replies on this. I kinda had a feeling that they would have to prove that the filter and gauage caused the bad fitting to leak on the trans line. I should have known there was going to be a problem to start out with when the tech at the five star dealer could not find the leak in 8 hours that I found in 30 seconds in my drive. I will get ahold of the Service manager, who according to the tech is kinda gun shy as she was burnt on fixing a really bomded truck that DC did not reimburse the dealer for. And if that doesnt work I have alot of lawyer friends that would be more then willing ( and would enjoy) firing off some strongly worded letters. Again thanks for all of the help and hopefully I can reciprocate in the future.

Thanks

JC
