Was at the dealer picking up a Fuel Filter the other day (man do they rip you off!) and asked about air filters. The Service Manager told me only standard foam air filters were covered under warranty by Dodge or Cummins. He proceeded to tell me if I ran a K & N or any other sort of performance filter that any damage would not be warranteed. Is this true? What about the Magnuson Moss Act? He said the same rules apply to the oil filter, only cummins, dodge, or fleetgaurd are approved.

Previous to this truck I had a F150 that had a very custom intake system and the truck was really hopped up. New transmission at 24k miles and Ford didnt even hesistate to warranty it. Is Dodge much more stringent?

I have seen a few failures with K&N filters. I suspect most are from lack of service to the filter. If you don't keep the element cleaned and oiled it will not work properly. The engine failure is relatively easy to see, and that's when the warranty is denied (as it should for lack of maintenance).

Running the K&N in itself will not void the warranty, but if you have an engine failure they will look at it hard. The dealer that covers these kinds of failures gets charged back when the engine gets back to DC or Cummins. It is a chance most dealers are not willing to take for obvious reasons $$$$.

there is a TSB on Oil Filters 09-004-01 dated May 18, 2001

05016547AC Mopar

LF3894 Fleetguard Stratopore

LF3552 Fleetguard Microglass

LF3949 Fleetguard Cellulose

3937695 Cummins Cellulose

FL896 MotorCraft Cellulose

L45335 Purolator Cellulose

PF1070 AC Delco Cellulose

These are the approved filters by DC... Just use the LF3894

As far as Air filters go, the "aftermarket product" has to be the cause of the failure/problem for them not to honor the warranty they can't just say sorry you change the air filter your warranty is void.
