OK, so I bought a new truck in February to replace my 93 W250 cummins with 180,000 miles on it. The new truck is a 2001 3500 4x4 with a cummins and a five speed. The truck came from Canada and had 24,000 miles on it, I had tracked down the previous owner and found out they traded it in because of new registration laws that quadrupled the cost of registration, so I felt comfortable buying it, especially since I still had a warranty. The first thing I noticed was the loose feeling front end, my old truck felt tighter with all original front end parts, of course the stealer told me it was normal and that I'd have to get use to it. Then I built a test gauge and check the fuel pressure, 8 psi at idle and 0 at wot, went to a dealer in Lincoln, Maine (same dealer as before)and they replaced it under warranty but after a little fight ( a word to the wise, NEVER walk into the stealer and tell them you checked the fuel pressure and it's low, they won't want to fix a problem based on your trouble shooting, Always tell them the performance is off and that then you checked the fuel pressure). Then last week I went to a dealer in Bangor, Maine and told them my front end was loose and my seat belt didn't always latch. they proceeded to tell me that because the truck was from Canada that it probably wouldn't be covered by warranty, I told them I had already had warranty work done, they said that it was new and Dodge wasn't going to warranty gray market vehichles???? Well needless to say I wasn't happy and then went next door to the dealer I bought the truck from ( a Ford dealer). They told me they had a dealership in Ellsworth, Maine that took care of Dodges and that they would cover my warranty period no matter what. This morning I called to check on the status of my truck and guess what, it needs a track bar!!!!! The first dealership never even looked at that. The ones looking at it had to get the track bar and they are having it overnighted and I should have the truck back by Thursday at the latest. Needless to say I am pretty happy at this point, they actually looked for a problem instead of the usual that's noraml answer. The first dealership is great if you have Cummins problems, the two mechanics that do diesel work are superb but if you have any other problems they suck, and as far as Darling automall in Ellsworth, Maine I would have to say I am happy with them too, they actually looked for a problem. Now let me ask a question, has anybody ever heard of Dodge not wanting to cover a vehicle in the US because it came from Canada? I know Honda doesn't cover them from the searches I conducted but have never heard about it from and other make of vehicle. Anyways sorry for the long post but I wanted everyone to know about the good service I got, and to be fair the dealer in Lincoln has let me borrow barring tools and made copies of pages from the service manual for me so they are not all bad.
