Hey all,

I am getting close to the 100k mark and am going to try to get the front end of the truck serviced under warranty. Steering is pretty shot as expected. I have the exteded coverage so I'm wondering exactly what points you guys suggest I address, ie; ball joints, track rod steering box etc. I want to go to the stealer and give them a very detailed list of anything and everything I believe needs to be replaced/serviced to avoid as much BS as possible. Also, anybody who has any experience with Hunter dodge in Lancaster, CA - any suggestions on who to talk to? This is the closest stealiship to my house.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

I think you are going to need a detailed list of all the symptoms your worn steering system is giving rather than going in with a list of parts you want replaced under your near expired warranty. Maybe someone can help me out here, but I believe if tell them you are experiencing "steering wander" or something like that it will trigger a comprehensive steering system diagnosic. But like I said I can't remember the correct "wording" you have to tell the stealer. It's just part of the game DC and stealers like to play to weasle out of warranty claims, they all know the Dodge steering and front suspension system has lots of problems.

Which extended warranty?

I had a few things fixed on my 7yr 100k but the track bar they would not cover. Read my warranty and it was not included.

Bought a Moog at Rock Auto for $132 and change.

My first conversation with dealer I had service tell me that I need to give him specific parts that I wanted replaced so that he could enter in the computer and tell me if it was covered under my warranty. My biggest concern is the difficult/ expesive procedures like ball joints. My understanding is that this is quite a job. But I will have them do whatever I am entitled to. Any other input on which parts are culprits to steering trouble? I know ball joints are a big one, track bar, tie rod ends (not sure if those are covered). Anything else? Tie rods and such should be relatively easy to come by aftermarked and relatively easy to do, so its no biggie if those aren't covered. But I'll take what I can get.

I just got a call back from the dealer and they said the ball joints should be covered. What else should I check on guys?

Thanks again,

Craig

"These people do more damage than good"

Hunter's service dept has a extremely poor rating see it here http://dodgeram.info/survey_dealer/CA/Hunter.htm

I stopped in there several years ago and they told me they didn't have a tech who worked on diesels and didn't carry any CTDs in inventory because "nobody wants them. " Of course things may have changed although some of the rating reports are very recent.
