All right, listen to this. I just picked up my truck from Benson Chrysler-Plymouth in Greer, SC yesterday. Here’s what I took it in for:
-Sloppy steering continues. Chrysler area rep came in to check it out.
-Track bar joint bad at just under 15,000 miles. Checked it myself with a dial indicator before going in, not to mention the fact that you can see it shifting around when you cut the steering wheel back and forth.
-Gear shift stick rotates clockwise very slowly (not just the knob, the whole stick). It’s on its third trip around since new.
-Clutch pack in rear end too tight (anti-spin diff). Even when hauling a load of a ton or more in the bed, the tires will “scrub” when turning with the truck in neutral, and no I’m not in 4WD. Actually it’s far worse with a load than without.
-Rear main seal and/or pan gasket leak.
-Engine oil leak from power steering pump drive shaft.
-Rear of valve cover starting to leak.
The result? Everything is ok, but they put a bottle of friction modifier in the rear end to see if that helps me into not coming back.
I agree that the warranty is only as good as the people that stand behind it, and these folks suck. How do you miss a leak with drops of oil hanging and all that? I guess there are two possibilities. One, they are plain stupid. Two, they are screwing me over. I’ll go with the second option. In any case, I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t want this dealership to touch my truck anymore. If they decide to fix something, I might wind up worse off. I am far better qualified than they are, and it’s worth my time to do my own work. At least I can rest assured that anything done will be done right.
Oh, by the way, to each his own.
