I have a ? regarding the factory warranty. I just purchased a 2001 2500 4wheel drive with the CUMMINS, awesome! I see alot of upgrades that are performed on new trucks, what happens to the warranty when these are done, also, what mods can be done that don't affect the warranty?

Short answer: You become you own warranty station, peroid.

Air filters and exhaust and gauges will be OK, but fuel boxes, injectors, propane, transmission work... ... ... . bye bye warranty.

Hope this helps,

Glenn

get a box like the ez, powerpuck, va etc which can be unplugged and removed. injectors theey may not notice. propane inj can be hid.

boxes like the comp box that tap into your pump wire can be detected. and they look for nicks in the wire.

just do it and be stealthy. its just too much fun to drive a bombed rig to worry about warranty. besides, if you have a problem, it has to be proven to be the fault of the bomb. also, it depends on the dealer and if they are bombing friendly.

When folks say bye-bye warranty if you bomb it will only be on the component that the bombing may have damaged. This is the law. Adding injectors or a fueling box won't change the warranty on your stereo or rear axle but they could say it damaged the transmission. You will never "lose" your warranty, but you may have to fight some stealers to honor it, they are always looking for an out.

I'll tell you what I have done, and what warranties I think I voided. .

I installed a PE COMP, I HAD to :D Pierce the injection pump wire, I also installed a Boost Elbow, when I did this, I new I probly voided the complete engine warrenty. Why?

The VP44 from "Dodge" on my truck makes 235HP, I now make about ~375HP from it, this is over design limits, and breakage won't be covered by Dodge, because *I* Broke it.

The Turbo, I put a boost elbow. The turbo is designed for ~20PSI, I am now pumping 35PSI of boost, over design limits, and I will be my own warrenty station here also.

I also installed new injectors, :D hehe, well, once you do this, kiss engine warrenty goodbye,, Cummins didn't make 'em, doesn't use 'em, and don't sell 'em.

With Just my PE COMP, I figured I voided all warrenties between my Lift pump and my rear-end. (Lift Pump, Injection pump, ALL of the Cummins ISB, intercooler, intercooler hoses, exhaust manifold, turbo, clutch, transmission, driveshaft, U-Joints, Carrier bearing, Pinion seals/bearings, Ring&Pinion, LSD differential, etc. etc. etc. )

How else do you void that many items with just ~$700 ? :)

If you want to be stealthy with mods,, I think that Dodge/Cummins can ALWAYS Find out of clues of any mods, so if they really want to void warrenty, they can. If they want to be nice about it, they can do that too.

EDIT: The PE EZ, and other "Light" fueling boxes shouldn't be much of a problem with warrenty, if you get an onory dealer they'll give you the bird, but other places will be much more tolerant of light engine mods.

I trust the VP44, and Cummins enough that I feel safe pushing for the 500-600RWHP Range. (Gotta pay to play,, this may take a while :D )

I know this was asked before and never got an answer. Has anyone actually had their warranty voided wrongly and legally won against DC or dealer? If you did how many thousands did it cost? Has anyone ever tried and lost? Serious here not trying to start a controversy but what do you all say!!!

All I can say is that my lift pump was replaced 3K miles ago under warranty and my transfer case pump was also fixed under warranty 200 miles ago. I've never had a problem with a factory part that was not corrected under warranty.

That being said, I did elect to go with DTT's VB and TC after the dealer TC replacement failed. I was almost out of the factory transmission warratny anyway and wasn't happy with the stock auto.

I go to a 5 Star dealer for my warranty work. They know in no uncertain terms that if it isn't covered under warranty I will take it to my personal mechanic rather than pay their overhead. Warranty dollars are better than no dollars. Plus I have bought 5 vehicles from them and they know it. ;)

The best way (the right way) to look at BOMBing versus the warranty is "If you break it, you buy it". When the BOMBing bug bites, don't worry, just make sure you have a plan so that the modifications will work together in harmony to make your truck the best it can be. Take in to account your driving habits and what you tow or will be towing if you plan to buy a new boat, trailer, etc. Planning your upgrades in advance may save you some money by not having to upgrade a component a second time.

With a little over 90,000 miles, my upgrades are appropriate for my towing requirements and my right foot when the spirit moves me :D I take care of, and drive my truck like I own it, because I do. Daimler Chrysler's aversion to providing warranty work on modified trucks is understandable. However, their attitude in dealing with it is not.

By the way, the air conditioner works great from the factory.

I'll step up to the plate. I put in stage 1 injectors and DC found out, they voided the warranty on the whole truck. Now alot of people will tell you DC can not do that but no one has come up with any money to help us that have lost our warranty fight the battle. I don't expect any company to pay for damages I caused but I also beleave they should discuss the problem and investigate what actually caused the damage and make a decision based on the facts. I wrote DC and they didn't want anything to do with my truck.

The only reason i put injestors in is because my truck had power issues. I had it dynoed at cummins and the results were 171 HP, DC said it was within the 20% limit and refused to do anything else. Go figure, I bought this truck to pull my 5th wheel and my previous 360 ram had more power.

DC voided my warranty at 20,000 miles and it hurt real bad, bad enough to make a person that has owned many mopar products for 26 years change brands (in a few years if duramax pans out who knows). 68 coronet 440, 69 charger R/T, 71 challenger R/T, 73 Dart sport, 75 Dodge 150, 78 D250, 81 5th ave. , 83 Ram, 85 Ram, 95 Ram, 99 Ram diesel 3500.

The way I see it is I supported Chrysler for many years and when I needed them the most they turned there backs on me, in my book thats the lowest form of life there is.

Again I don't expect any one to pay for the damages I cause but they should at least make sure they are my damages.

The good news is my truck now has 35,7-- miles and I didn't need there crummy warranty. I know the engine has 100,000 mile warranty but its a cummins; enough said. My truck now pulls the way it should of from the factory with more power then I need ( well maybe), It will pull now.

Sorry for the long post but talking about it helps.

ronsram1999 ~ Certainly if I put in say a non-OEM left pump and it proves to not pump enough fuel and burn the injector pump yes I should pay I am not questioning that at all. What I am saying is if I put in exhaust mod and they void whole truck warrantly and the torque convert goes bad they refuse because warrantly is voided for exhaust mod. I admit extreme ridiculous but the first thing everybody says if DC does this it is illegal. I am saying unless we are wealthy beyond believe and fight it we will never get them to pay for a defective part they should I don't care if illegal or not. I am just wondering if anyone has been successful or more than one that would make DC think twice about warrantly void. If nobody has it does not matter it is illegal saying it is merely sour grapes and smoke to make one feel better because I had to pay and should not have. Kind of like I will tell you what they did is illegal to make you feel good. To be included in this is after market suppliers have any of you been successful? I would guess at least one person or company was sucessful because of the federal "ACT" saying it is illegal. Sorry for long post kind of got carried away. :(

There have been folks here that have reported fighting dealers for warranty and winning, can't remember names off the top of my head. Seems like the better solution is to just take the rig to another dealer who is easier to work with, there are some out there.

When a dealer voids your warranty, they enter it in the DC computer system. Go to another dealer and they know your truck warranty is voided. SNOKING

I had my truck to three different dealers, same crap different day.

IMO if you have enough money to fight them they will do something for you, if not your own your own.

The only reason I even responded to this thread is because someone ask a question and answered it. If I can prevent one person from going through the hell and agony I did then I acomplished something. I am not saying don't put after market parts on, just use your head when you do and be ready to pay the consequences if you get caught.

One note about my other reply: The dealer told me to put the after market parts in, I should have got that in writeing, I'am to damn gulable and trusting.
