Ok, I have heard so many stories about what is and what is not covered under warranty here, let's start a forum about what you have had warrantied and why it was warrantied.



Many have made "mods "and the dealer says "no warranty" and many others have "mods" and the dealer says "covered"



Let's hear some of the warranty stories here

We dont need forums or stories. Botoom line is... . Some dealers will say covered and some will say not covered. Really it matters how strict they are. I have 315's on my truck and a buddy who hass 33's on his truck went to that dealer they said "no warranty and the guy who owned to dealer ran out and said leave my dealership now! " :rolleyes: My other buddy says a dealer that is nearby allows bigger tires and even chips :eek: . It really matters how the dealer is.
 
It is my understanding that a warranty can not be void by a dealer. The warranty has to be denied by the manufacturer, and it has to be a written denial.

Actually we all have had our warranty denied in writing by the manufacturer. That is if you have modifications. I'm sure all vehicle warranties have the statement similar to the one that DC put in the warranty book that came with our trucks. It clearly states that modifications might void the warranty. At that point it is up to the dealer to determine if the part(s) in question has caused or contributed to the failure. The key point is just because the dealer fixes it under warranty for you, does not mean that DC is going to ultimately pay the warranty claim. The dealers that take a hard line just might have been burned in the past. Many of the parts replaced under warranty go back for analysis, and non defective parts are charged back. The second generation pumps were a great example. When they when back for return, the wires are inspected for cuts. Any cut wires are instant chargeback to the dealer. The dealer is not making policy (well maybe some do) but just enforcing the policy that DC sets for them.
 
I fought a warranty denial. It is federal law that a manufacturer may not deny warranty because of the installation of aftermarket parts, performance or otherwise unless the part causes or contributes to the failure of the part in question. Voiding the warranty is a separate issue and as far as I know a manufacturer may only void the warranty for tampering with the odometer. In actual practice the dealer as the manufacturers representative may deny warranty coverage for whatever reason legitimate or not. It is then up to you to fight the denial of coverage. This is an important point because essentially you are guilty until you prove you are innocent. The process is not as bad as some make out here. I hired an attorney to explain things and tell me how to get the ball rolling and took it from there myself. It would have been cheaper and easier to just bend over and take it but for me it was a matter of principal. If you do decide to fight, consult an attorney.
