I have recently purchased a 2002 3/4 ton w/ the HO motor. I am thinking about puting on many upgrades (chip, exhaust, turbo, pacbrake, blah, blah, blah). Has any heard of or encountered any problems with voiding the warrentee? Should I drive it around stock a while before doing the upgrades? Thanks.

Oh yeah

absolutely, anything you do dodge can and will void your warrantee. Some dealers are rather modification friendly and will turn a blind eye (so i have heard) There have been stories of others that look for reasons to report you to mother DC. My suggestion is always, do not modify if you are not prepared to pocket any repairs. As far as whether you should drive it around stock for a while. heck no they are to much fun with lots of power, but again, decide what is more important warrantee or power.

What he said

Drive it around for awhile and then decide if you are willing to be your own warranty station. While I don't see the exhaust or pacbrake voiding much, the addition of fueling boxes and/or larger injectors can add up to mucho $$$ if you break something and void the warranty. Put some gauges in that beast, get a baseline and enjoy the ride. If you decide on fueling improvements, know what your fuel pressure is before the addition of a box and or injectors.

The engine does gain some power and run better after it breaks in, which can take over 10,000 miles. If you are not really hungry for more power, I'd wait till it's broke in and see if you still want to modify it. I am personally very happy with mine stock, and don't plan on any engine mods. Much less stress that way, on me and on the drive train.

The longer you drive it stock:( the better you'll like it with some real power.

I drove mine stock for 65K(now at 69K):(

Now I look forward to every opportunity to drive it. :D

Think I'll put a few more miles on before I add the PE Comp;)

I can't imagine why anybody should expect a manufacturer to honor their warranty if they can discern that the owner has purposely increased the stress on engine and drivetrain components beyond what the manufacturer designed them for. It's fraud plain and simple if you tamper with the vehicle and then remove the modifications before taking the vehicle in for warranty work. If you want to increase the power of their truck go for it but be honest enough to become your own repair station.

If you can not afford to buy a new injection pump for $1200 - $1500 or a new short block for $5-9K then I would not bomb. You should not expect the maker of the truck to spring for items you broke by altering them. Repeat after me... I am my own warranty station.

I know all about the Moss-Magnaussan act and its all smoke and mirrors unless you have a lawyer and lots of $$. Remember that DC has a building full of lawyers that are on there payroll.
