what can you do to these 04. 5 c. t. d. and not mess up the warrenty i want gauges and maybe a programmer?the dealer says no to any upgrades not even gauges,i guess they think you have a chip. can the programmer be traced? i want to tow 10000lbs or more weekly. when i get 1000to2000 miles on it. thank you

I would'nt think gauges would void anything... all you are doing is adding something that keeps you informed about what is happening under the hood. .

I just last week towed my 5th wheel over some passes here in WA State... weighs about 7200 lbs... ... ..... had my foot to the floorboards... ... . the truck was a slug going uphill... . I miss the edge box I had in my 2001 ... .

It is my understanding that mopar has a pyrometer that the dealer can install. The one I saw looked to be an AutoMeter UltraLight with a Mopar M silkscreened on the gauge face. Summit also sells the same Mopar gauge, as well as it's AutoMeter twin. I know that I read somewhere here that a dealer had installed one for someone.

My dealer has seen my 3 gauge cluster. They've never said anything but "hey that's cool, did we do that?" So far so good.

To me, gauges are a must. Before I had them, I didn't see the importance, but now, they are quite informative. You should be commended by the dealer for taking a measure of preventative maitenance like gauges. Anything to help you monitor/protect your truck should be smiled upon by the dealer. In my humble opinion anyway...

I would imagine that having a pre-turbo pyro probe could be an easy out for them if your turbo goes kaput though. An improper install could send shavings into your turbo thereby destroying it. However, a bad pyro install won't fill your crankcase with fuel (for example). Magnusson-Moss comes into play here a little. They would have to prove the gauges caused the failure.

My . 02 is find another dealer. One that recognizes the importance of engine monitoring.

As for the box/programmer detection. I dunno (some say yes, some say no). I'm not going to run one till my warranty is out or the truck is paid for (whichever comes first).

About Chips

Talk at the BOMBer parties is that Dodge can't tell with thier computer but Cummins can tell with thiers. The dealer seems to look for other signs of a chip like clean plugs unhooked wires velcro on the fuse box and or a clean fuse box, and yes some figure if you got gauges you have a chip.

My advice drive your stock truck for awhile work out the bugs after your 3/36000 is over add gauges then a chip and kill the "kitty"

IMO unless your Cummins grenades or melts down the 7/100 warranty isn't worth what the paper it's written on as with most warranties... .....

Get U Some (gauges that is)

I'd pick me out some gauges I wanted an find another dealership for warranty work. I've had mine at two different dealerships an nothing was ever said about my gauges, no comments about are you running a chip or what ever. Mines completely stock for now.

I asked my local dealer and he said he'd install as long as I buy the gauges ... . he had no warranty problems. My truck has 5000 miles on it.

Extended warranty

What is the general opinion of the extended warranty offered by DC.

It seems like a lot money for what you get. I would like to hear some pro's and con's of people who has purchased it.
