Was Canadian Truck Am I the warranty Station

I've owned the truck for 24 hours. Love it!! Wouldn't have anything else. It was originally sold in Canada and ...

I was following some threads on warranties not being honored or at least not to the US mileage/time Limits. It has 38,500 Miles.

Am I going to need to be my own warranty service center or has it been on a dealer by dealer basis. Some of the threads weren't quite clear about final resolution and now the lawyers have it.

I purchased my 2001 CTD through a Canadian dealer and was told the warranty was the same as US.

DC is clamping down on Canadian vehicles - they consider them "gray market" vehicles and MAY honor the warranty as a "customer courtesy" up to the stated time/milage. I bought a '00 1500 that was originally a Canadian vehicle, and had a few minor warranty repairs done at 2 different dealers - no problems. ALmost immediately after the time expired, I had a problem recurr, and was addressed by a TSB. Dealer #2 refused to even LOOK at the truck. I called DC, and they were indicating they would cover it until I gave them the VIN - no more Mr. NiceGuy it's YOUR problem! DC isn't the only one trying to void warrantys on Canadian vehicles. It just gets better

Talked to the DC "Customer Service" rep today. They told me 36,000 and out. That leaves me almost out of warranty. Told me there was no such thing as a 7/70 for Canadian trucks. No wonder the lawyers are getting involved. Thanks for the replies. I still wouldn't change my mind. It has everything I want.

We have laws here too, ya know. The Canadian warranty usually compares (it's in km instead of miles), base was 3 yrs/60k km on my 96 and my 2003, 7 yrs 115k km (70k miles!) on drive train on my 2003.



I don't see how Chrysler Canada could be freed from a Canadian law or warranty signed under the Canadian Law, just because the truck is now owned by a US citizen ??? Dan

Make sure the truck has 36, 000 miles and not kilometers. Take it out on a freeway and check it against the mile markers. If the odometer reading gives KM, multiply the reading times . 62 to convert to miles. I am driving a Fo**company truck that came out of Canada, the odometer reads in KM, the speedometer reads both km's and MPH with mph being the main scale.



You might have fewer miles then you think.

I appreciate the help. Unfortunately when checked the odometer, it was in miles. With or without a DC warranty I'm happy with my ride. Wish I had some more vacation to take a real trip. Oh well summer is coming.

Check out this link for more information. I bought a truck from Canada right before DC was making everything known about cancelling warranties. Initially with under 25,000 miles I got a lift pump changed with no problems. Also I got a dealership owned by the same people that I bought the truck from to put in ball joints, tie rod ends and a track bar, but I have also had problems when I had an idle lope and brought it to a different dealer, they told me I had no warranty. As soon as the original 3/36 was gone so was the 5/100 on the engine (luckily or maybe not the idle lope disappeared). So far though the dealer that I bought the truck from has stood behind me because that was a question I asked when I bought the truck was if it had the warranty and they said yes. The problem now is that I moved 450 miles away from the dealer I bought the truck from, plus the dealers around here don't know a diesel from a flathead. I've got 62,000 on the truck now so with my fingers crossed hopefully I won't have to fight the warranty battle. If you've got a good dealer than can get Canadian truck warranty issues put through. Did you buy the truck from a Dodge dealer? They should stand behind you if you did. Good luck, it's up-hill both ways. Hopefully you got a really good deal on the truck to make up for any warranty headaches. I know I did.

I appreciate the reply. It will help. Unfortunately I bought the truck from a dealer about 200 miles from home. A great deal but, a long trip for service. I did find good service recommendations for a dealer in my area right here in TDR. I am going to give them a try.
