Hi Guys:

I have a 96 3500 auto, 354 gears, I took it to cummins and had the valves set and timing set at 151/2 degrees, they told me my waste gate was shot and not working, I have slide the stock plate forward about . 060, which gives me a whole lot of power on the top end. The mechanic at cummins said that as long as I had the stock plate in, I couldn't hurt anything, even though I am pulling a 13000 lb. fifth wheel. Does he know what he is talkng about, or should I replace the waste gate?

Thanks;

Les

the only advice i feel qualified to give is, (GET SOME GUAGES). then you'll know for sure whats going on temp wise. i have heard that a stock plate slid will cause a truck (EGT's) to get hot. with no guages you have no idea what temp your running at. EGT's can run hot without moving the plate. by sliding the plate and hooking on to a load, your best bet would be to put the guages in, observe, and go from there. hope this helps,

ditto on the "gauges". I had the stock plate slid and installed gauges afterwards. . wow. . high egts and didnt know it. It ran ok, installed gauges and moved plate back right afterwards. . then I had the ba... 's to put the Banks plate back in and "adjust" a tad forward, little spin of the star wheel and a rocket was under me:--) Now egt's are controled with the right foot:D Now if I can find someone close who's put the gsk kit in I would be in heaven:cool: Got the kit but not sure I am up to that! Plate sliding is easy, got the intake manifold off and chickened out:{
