Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Waste gate stuck open?

How can I check to be sure the waste gate is closed. I have lower boost and more smoke than previously. Boost was 40lbs now 20lbs, could be the gauge -it jumps at 20lbs like it hits a bind.

If you think the gauge is bad, change it first. If it is bad then you really don't know what your pressure is, and you could spin your wheels needlessly trying to diagnose something that is not a problem.

Best if you have a known good gauge to install before buying a new one. At any rate, take a quick look at the air hoses and clamps to make sure you dont have any leaks.

I just replaced the intercooler hoses so I don't think I have any leak there. The main reason I suspect the wastegate is I have a good cloud of smoke at half throttle and the comp on 3-3. Thr truck seems to run good although

I haven't done any wideopen starts in a long time.

I don't have a spare gauge but I guess I'll get one. The present one is a six year old Banks.
