Has any had their tank dipped

Howdy all, just curious about what we can burn in our tanks with out any modifications, if we diluted cooking oil with #2 will it burn ok ? just a thought, was cleaning out cabinet found some ransid salad & safoli oil don't want to throw away if I can burn it,anyway any help would be appreciated.

Just My Opinion. "I prefer #2 diesel in my CTD. Other things may work but why chance it. Clog your filter and you would be better off setting it on fire.

If you have the P7100 pump and NO cat converter it will work OK but you should filter it before you put it in the tank. A lot of that stuff will clog the cat. IMO it wouldn't be worth the trouble until fuel gets up to $5 a gallon. Some of the big OTR trucks burn the engine oil as they add more from an onboard tank.
 
thanks guys for your input,your right fuel does not cost that much but untill I get out into the country I cannot use a waste oil furnace for heating my shop,so I guess i'll just start saveing all the drained oil,transmission fluid & diff. grease so when I leave the bay area i'll have some fuel for heating.
 
A General Motors dealer in Baker City uses the waste oil furnace and as far as I can tell, it does a great job. At least it serves a multiple purpose use.
 
Joe, you're wrong about having to move to the country to run a waste oil heater. I had one and have known of several others, they produce no smoke or smell at all. It costs around $1000 to convert a fuel oil heater to waste oil, there are several companies that sell conversion kits, do a web search.
 
Illflem,thank you for responce actually there is a company up in the mid west that manufacture waste oil furnaces and water heaters,unfortunetly the cannot sell them to us here in CA, they are not E-P-A approved, so when I get out of the city I will be taking a trip to buy some goodies,I havn't checked into converting a standard fuel furnace over good idea,I think i'll pick one up and check it out,i've got some literature on the INOV-8 seems to me the most important thing is the pre-heater to salidifye the combustables before they get into the injectors,at the flue discharge they also re-burn to clean before it is dumped into chimney,so I can see why converting from regular #1 to waste oil would be so costly. the salesman tells me that the 125,000 btu uses about 3/4 of a gallon per hr not to bad. anyhow sorry about the rambling and thanks again for responce

We had 2 waste oil heaters in a shop i worked in, they work great, i will definatlety buy one once i build my own shop, its nice to be able to burn something for heat that you normally would have no use for. Untill i get my waste oil heater, i use my old oil for lubing track switches at work.
 
You can't just burn straight vegatable oil. But you can burn it if you make it into Biodiesel first by splitting the glycerin out of it. Vegatable oil is a triglyceride - which means it is composed of 3 esters attached to a glycerin molecule. You have to split that glycerin molecule off by treating the oil with sodium hydroxide and methanol. What you end up with is Biodiesel, which will mix with petrolueum derrived diesel fuel and should run just fine. Some rubber components may be effected by it and it has about 7-10% less BTU so you will not have quite as much power and get less milage.



But you can make it from used restaurant cooking oil which is free in many cases. There is a book out called "From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank" that is pretty good.
