Was driving the truck last week (12K miles on odometer) when I looked down and saw the check engine light on. So I took it over to the dealer to put it on the computer. He came back and said the computer stored a code regarding the "Wastegate Actuator".

Said the diesel tech was on vacation for a week, so he didn't clear the code, but said to come back when the diesel tech was back in the shop if the check engine light didn't go off. Well, I continued to drive the truck and the light went off after about 100 miles and 5 or 6 starts, but 10 miles after it went off, it came back on again. I've driven it about another 50 miles since then and it's off again. I haven't seen the light come back on, but I'm going to take it into them and have it checked out anyway.

Has anyone else had problems on the 04. 5 with the electronic wastegate actuator? This problem seems very odd for a truck with only 12K on the odometer! While the check engine light was on, I did notice a lack of power where normally the turbo boost kicks in. So, the only thing I can imagine was the wastegate was stuck open and not allowing the turbo to build and pressure.

Thanks!

As I was driving today, the check engine light was off so I gave it hell to see if the truck was getting boost. The wastegate must have been closed and not opening because I was getting great boost and the truck would actually de-fuel it was getting so much boost. After turning it off during a stop, I started it again and the check engine light was back on, gave it hell again and the turbo didn't create any boost at all, so the wastegate must be stuck open again.

I wish they'd put boost gauges in from the factory... then it wouldn't be a guessing game as to what's going on in the turbo! I loved my X-montior in my 99 CTD... I could see what was happening all the time with the help of the pyro and boost gauge.

Can't wait for the diesel tech to get back from vacation so I can get this thing fixed!
