Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Wastegate actuator

I was on vacation this week so I got a bunch of stuff done to the truck that I had wanted to get done but didn't have the time. Adjusted valves, R & R prefilter, installed 215s, changed a leaking PS hose, changed gears in the front to match the 3. 55s in the rear.

Installing the 215s gave me a little more smoke but the boost didn't change any. My wastegate has never worked so I thought that maybe I was losing boost thru the actuator if the diaphragm was blown. Sure enough I can blow through it just using lung power. I have never developed more than 30 psi so I wasn't really worried about the wastegate working. I plugged the line and went for a spin and boost was up to about 34 and smoke diminished some. I realize I am still safe at 34psi but if I were to install a new wastegate actuator should I go with a stocker or is there a better aftermarket alternative? I guess I need to change that ticking lift pump next...

You can adjust a stock actuator for more boost,add a boost fitting and run it at stock setting or buy a Banks actuator'

Plugged the line on mine also. As long as your boost gauge is correct, and you dont fuel toooo much, you should be fine. Just control boost with the smoke pedal. your max for a HX35 turbo is about 35-37. 40 is walking the line.



you were prolly losing that 4+ lbs thru the blown wastegate.



Bob4x4's suggestion of a banks big head actuator is a good choice.

You can still get the stock actuator, but the list price is $215 from a dodge dealer. You can get a brand new Banks Big head for $175 from Xtreme Diesel. If you want to replace it, i wouldn't bother with the stocker... more money than a performance part and still stock. PM Sent back. I'll look for it tomorrow and send it out. I'm pretty sure I know where it's at, as long as nobody got sticky fingers. Also I have a stock fuel plate if anyone wants it, from a 98 auto.
