Hi Group,

I'm new to the group and to diesel engines beyond that I am a novice parts changer but want to do what I can for this new to me truck. The PO's didn't do this truck many favors and just today I discovered another surprise. I found a 3/8 in. hose plugged up and hanging loose. I traced it back to what I think I correctly identified as the Wastgate Actuator. It is attached below the turbocharger. Where should it attach and how high a priority should I assign to fixing this?

On a 94' that wastegate line was a metal line that went all the way up to the AFC housing. He probably took it completely off and left the few inches of rubber hose there that it starts out with then turns to metal line. It's no big deal being plugged, with my truck (same as yours) bone stock except 4'' exhaust would only put out about 22 PSI boost with the wastegate plugged. One of your first mods should be gauges, I got this kit from city diesel it's a real good deal-

Or if you have the money this is a great starter kit-

Thanks Matt, You answered my question as well as my next question for the group was what gauges do I actually need? For the record the hose I found is over 18 inches long and not a metal line at all. I have no idea what the PO did or why, I'm finding more surprises all the time. I'll be back, I have a lot to fix and like the truck more every time I drive it.

You will want a trans temp, pyrometer (exaust temp),and a boost gauge,Good luck with the truck. Check out genos garage for gauges and stuff. There very helpfull.

For a manual trans you need atleast boost and pyrometer, the 2 gauges I posted the link too. Fuel pressure is an optional gauge, most don't get one for a 12 valve. Since I bought that pillar pod set from city diesel I ended up buying the steering column pod, putting my boost gauge in there, and leaving fuel pressure and pyrometer in the pillar pod. Worked out great and looks even better!

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the counsel, even recommendations for where to buy and how to mount. This group is great! I'll be back with another question/thread soon. I tried to change the oil yesterday and the drain plug is jammed so it's going in the shop to let someone with a lift and better leverage get it out. I am also going to let the pro's find and fix miniscule fuel leak that I know is there but cannot locate the source so I don't know what to fix. It's on top of the fuel filter housing, it gets wet every time I drive but is so slow it evaporates before it gets to the bottom of the water separator and doesn't even drip. In the meantime I am going to read up on these gauges and have a good question rather than just asking I'll search and learn first. In the meantime I can save up for gauges. Thanks again.
