Wastegate adjustment

My turbo was making about 44-45 lbs. boost and since I have an HX-35 w/ 14cm2 housing, I figured I had better adjust the wastegate. I had never seen a procedure for doing so in any of the forums. So after much deliberation, I disconnected my small wastegate hose and hooked my air compressor up to it. First, I increased the air pressure till the wastegate operated. I have the "bighead" wastegate and it operated at 50 lbs. I removed the keeper clip from the end of the arm and by "feathering" the air pressure, it was easy to disconnect the arm from the exhaust wastegate. I backed the threaded end of the rod off 5 turns, reconnected the air and feathered the pressure to re-attach the arm. Then, with the compressor, I adjusted the pressure to check my new operating point. It was 30 lbs. This was lower than I wanted but I figured each full turn on the threaded rod was equal to 3 lbs. I removed the rod again and turned the rod in two turns. This, theoretically, should give me an operating point of 36 lbs. I checked it with the compressor and it was very close so I buttoned everything up and went for a road test. Max. boost was 35 lbs. I'm happy with this and total time involved was about an hour.

I'm sure a lot of members are probably very familiar with this procedure but I am sure a lot of others are not and will be a real time-saver should the need arise for this adjustment.

I use a $10 air tool regulator w/ 0-60 lb gauge in line with the wastegate. I have had some fun checking egt's at different boost levels. I did use my compressor for initial set up.
