Amsoil Foam Air Filters...my results

Who has injectors for 3rd Gen's?

:( My trucks was running pretty bad. Wont go above 2000 rpm, smokes real bad if I try, checked for codes no codes. I suspected the wastegate or turbo related. the wastegate actuator and wastegate are frozen tight. The dealer tells me I cant just buy a new wastegate and that I need to purchase the entire turbo assembly. So I'm looking aftermarket I found this http://www.performancedieselwarehouse.com/817983.html. Will this work well on a stock engine, is it a good price, do I need to also purchase a new actuator? I'm looking at the HX35.

Frozen shut or open? If open-"hardwire it"(and get a boostfooler) if shut;

Have you checked your lift pump or changed your fuel filter(with those symptoms)

Doubt that the wastegate is the problem. Have you checked the rubber boots lines to and from the intercooler? Even if the wastegate is open you should be able to run above 2000 rpm, all it does is bypass some of the exhaust around the turbo. Turbo might be frozen? If in fact the gate is stuck, remove the turbo and get some good penetrating oil and free it up. bg

You should be able to find all the parts to fix it your self. You may have to pull the turbo off the truck to work on it, but you should be able to do it. Now to find the parts, I would try www.piersdiesel.com or call Industrial Injection.

I sorta have this going in two forums the other looking for diagnostic help, and this looking for help with turbo selection. Here's what I just posted in the other forum. "The turbo assembly is sitting on my garage floor now. The wastegate appears to have been frozen for a long time, I cant get it to budge even with torch heat on it. It is stuck in the closed position. Since the power loss problem just started I dont believe the wastegate is at fault. I wont be putting the junk part back in so now I have to wait to continue diagnostics "

The fuel filter and lift pump were replaced about 5000 miles ago, I found that the LP was bad when I couldnt prime after the filter change. Even when the LP wasnt working at all the truck was running okay. I recently purchased the truck and I dont think the LP was working then so there's no telling how long it was dead.

The wastegate was frozen in the closed position.

Have you tried putting regulated shop air (25 to 30 PSI) into the wastegate actuator? Hooked up to the wastegate and just the actuator by itself? Just curious?

Before I took it apart I put air to the actuator and it didnt move, so I disconnected the actuator and it still wouldnt move. Then I removed it from the truck and after some fiddling and air pressure it finally worked but doesnt hold pressure. Then I went to the wastegate lever and it was frozen tight.

Do you have a Boost Gage? If I remember, you'll get a code and defueling after 35(guys on that number?) psi. If it was frozen shut, you should have gotten well above 25 psi or so that the wastegate would open.

The wastegate lever is frozen solid I've even tried heating it with a torch and it still wont move. I'm afraid the wastegate is toast, as well as the actuator.

No boost guage yet, and no codes.

I want to get a nice set of guages but the truck is contiuously costing large maintenance money. Oil pan was rotted and weeping, ball joints, front wheel ujoints, P/S pump, tires, lift pump, and the list goes on. Fortunately I do all the work myself and save some dough.

I've been going through the 911 archives and found others with similar problem, suggested fixes have been LP, FF, APPS, MAP, and VP44.

OUCH!!! I wonder if you toasted the turbine itself. Even if you can't "Feel" slop in the shaft, it could still have wasted bearings. Just doing a "dry" spin can cause damage. When you get it back up and running, get you some gages! I'd like to know what kind if Boost and EGT's you had before this and after as it went to crap. I got to defer to the experts at this point. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
