Can you rebuild the Trackbar bushing at bolt end?

In the morning when I get going it's like I have a leaky exhaust manifold, same sound - hi pitched click, click plus I get diesel fumes in the cab.

After warm up, it gets a lot more quiet and no fumes.

I only hear that sound again when I'm at 2,000 rpm on the highway. Past 2,000, lets say 2,100 it quiets up again.

The only place I figure it leaks is the wastegate valve cause on idle I can't find anything leak under the hood.

anyone else hear this?

thanks

Hey goober, when I pluged my line the other day, I noticed a fume smell in my cab also, but like you said, it is just for a sec in the morning, so I don't mind. As far as the clicking noise, mine just screams. . hehehe, I love it.

This is not a wastegate problem. Look for exhaust manifold gaskets that have walked out from in between the manifold and head OR a small crack somewhere on the cylinder head near the exhaust manifold. I've seen this a few times already, though the gaskets do tend to push out as the manifold heats/cools/warps. Check all your manifold bolts too.

Chris... . Can you just loosen the flange and push the old gasket back in?

I had my gaskets changed under warrenty at about 95K. Now at 205K the #1 is back out about the same as before.

With all the miles and a very rusty manifold, I hate to start something the quickly gets to be over my head.

Just wondering it it would be best to just have the entire manifold pulled and all new gaskets reinstalled. The rest seem fine.

Chris, thanks...

What's the best way to check to manifold leak? One of those rubber hoses in your ear around the exhaust?

And I guess the only to tell for a cracked head is when the manifold is off right?

Do they come off easy, looks like pretty rusted bolts in there.

thanks

As far as the gaskets go, they need to be replaced if they creep out. If it's rusty, it's a good idea to start spraying some WD40 or liquid wrench on all the manifold bolts every day for a week before you attack them. To check for leaks, start a cold engine and just probe around each exhaust port with your finger... . you'll feel it pulsing if it's leaking. The head is known to crack usually around cylinder #1, and is usually visible from the outside without removing the head. For all these reasons, I went with the 3 piece aftermarket manifold back when it was first offered.

forgot to add.....

I also found some carbon buildup on the #1 exhaust gasket. It's easy to see with the naked eye. Mine looked as tho it was heat streched(d-shaped).

This stuff works

For anything rusty, carboned up or just stubborn, get some KROIL. Not always easy to find but a small can on the shelf will last forever. I have had all the others fail and then this stuff works... no I do not sell it!!
